The final Irenicus, unfortunately for you,.. has infinte spells and I believe faster casting times and maybe permanent Improved Alacrity too ...

My battle with him took quite a while too

The way i handled it eventually, was to summon a planetar ( or 20 ) and let them all cast Insect Plague ... a tactic I borrowed from Alson
Takes a while for the insects to reach irenicus ( jumps around a lot ), but eventually they catch up,.. and he wont be casting any spells anymore.

The reason I addressed the invisibilty, is because dundee had the same problem I believe .. he was out of spells, but found some way of taking him down with the SotM, using the invisibility.

Knowing his story might help you

Irenicus, the Shattered One (aka Jon-Bon the 3rd) wears the Robe of Vecan, Amulet of Power, has infinite spells and, IIRC, is under a constant effect of Improved Alacrity. This is a strong combo.

Taking him down in a Mage-to-Mage, Spells-vs.-Spells isn't a good idea. Planetars are your best bet, here - so be sure to have a wish spell or two and, once again, cross your fingers. Use the Planetars to cast Insect Plague on him, and have them cast Globe of Blades.

Yep... Dundee's tactic was so simple that Weimer decided that his almighty creation shouldn't fall to it:

From the Tactics Mod README:
Release 4:

* Irenicus: Final Irenicus can now see invisible. No hiding in the final battle.

I'd follow Alson's suggestions here and implement a few more Wishes in your lvl 9 spell-slot. If you make sure your wisdom is atleast 18, you'll have a 12.5% chance or higher to get that option.

Basically, you'll need it .. since magic indeed wont bring the final Irenicus down, he's full of PfME and the like, as well as natural resistances.
You probably already noticed ADHW's do about 8 dmg or so to him.

Its either you, playing fighter ( tenser's transformation ) which probably wont work because of his break-magic ability .. or the right summons.
Any summon that isnt highly magic resistant wont survive long enough for the flashy spell effect to finish.
Which leaves you with Skeleton warriors and Fallen planetars ... I'm guessing Skeleton warriors fall under Irenicus' Death spell ...
so fallen planetars it is indeed.

I think that's weak, to have only one tactic ..
but I'm nowhere near that part of the game yet and dont think I have any saves from that point either ( had a group of 3, including a sorcerer go through the game .. which meant I had a sorcerer go through the game solo, and two people to cook and clean ).

So all I can do now is feel sorry for myself being weak and hope that Alson or Dundee or eXXon or anyone else for that matter take up the challenge of producing more than one good tactic -for a mage/sorcerer- to take on the third Irenicus

I've cut my spell consumption drastically, and now generally have at least ten useful spells for the second incarnation of Irenicus - slayer form. That being the case, i was able to save my slayer transformation for the third round. I did so, and the slayer was indeed able to damage irenicus, but that bastard get dimension dooring and curing critical wounds - so I am going to keep a fallen planetar spell in reserve for the battle - summon planetar - insect plague - and attack in slayer form - we'll see how it works.

I may also try incendiary cloud, rather than Fallen planetar w/insect plague to get a handle on Johnnie's rapid-fire spellcasting.

IC wont work as well .. insect plague 'll keep folowing Irenicus, and keep interrupting his spellcasting even if he jumps after that ( he will ).

But hey, as a complimentary spell, why not

Just prepare for a long fight, 'cause it takes a while for the insect plague to reach irenicus .. and make sure his protections are down by then.
It's all about stopping him from casting healing-spells the second he teleports away.

If the spell gets absorbed by his spell-turning or whatever, make one of your own summons near him hostile ( use a weak summon )and fire the insect plague at him .. indirect insect plague's wont be stopped by spell turning IIRC.

go get him

Just press the 'Print Screen'-button on your keyboard, and you will take a screenshot. You'll find it in a folder called 'ScrnShot' in your main BG2-folder.
