I admit I am totally ignorant of this whole situation I do understand the science behind it. Actually I think it is because I don't care. I see these scare commercials all the time to go out and buy a box for the switch. However with the cost of the boxes they describe it seems more logical to just go out and buy a new TV that works with cable or get rid of there TV and use a radio. If one has cable does one still need to do this? I thought everyone these days has cable else they may just as well throw there TV out the window since they are not watching to much anyway.

In general, your cable provider handles it. There may be some exceptions, but I doubt many.

I've had the same thought... that $40 (or whatever) can go towards a new TV without much difficulty.

It would seem that the new official date is June 12. It passed the House vote, and is expected to be signed into effect by President Obama.
