You would think with the amount of money on offer there would be a more foolproof system than matching up receipts used on the same day and perhaps getting a shot from a surveillence camera. You would think the people who buy lottery tickets would want it! If they can run raffles to raise money for school trips by having a copy of the ticket number and the buyer's details - so you don't even have to have the ticket to get the prize, you'd think something as big as a lottery would be better organised

IMHO, this is stupid. Anyone can just say "Hey, I had 6 million dollars in my pocket but it was stolen from me by that gentleman with the briefcase!". How dumb is that?
She lost the ticket. Her story ends there. What was she thinking? The lottery company was going to give her a runner-up award or something?

To me the one who walks into the Lottery Claims office with the winning ticket is the winner. The woman who claims she lost it must be a scammer or deranged. If she dropped the ticket in the snow, and the ticket was stolen as she claimed, what did the ticket look like then? That'd be my question, cause if it fell in the snow it would have water spots?
You'd be surprised what people will do, I'll never forget last year that girl who claimed to be a lost kidnapped child from 15 or so years ago, the victim parents were so ecstatic about finding their long lost child after all that time, and all was a total lie and fraud, for who knows what reason as there was no big family riches involved. So in other words some woman claiming to have lost the ticket but has no actual proof of anything rings those freak bells in my head. But who knows, maybe there is more to the story than anyone knows. Bah should have been me anyways, I'd make a great millionaire |

What's the deal with $162 million jackpots anyways? Those are idiotic amounts of money... Even if they split the jackpot in 10, the winners will be filthy rich for the rest of their lives.

Grojlach I'm with you on this. It would be better to have one big winner of say the 62 million and 100 winners of a milion each.

That's not how the system works. The only fixed prizes are 2-6. The jackpot is based on the tickets purchesed. Also, the pot rolls over, so it grows until a winning number is hit. Then all of those with a winning number hit the pot. Numbers are not exclusive. So, one person could win, 5 million people could win (aleit with a verrrrrryyyy low prob).
And Groj, $16 million is not THAT much over here, depending where you live. Yes, you are set for life and may retire if you live a middle class life style, but you are not filthy rich. Though if you play your money right, you are well on the way to being filthy rich. [ 01-08-2004, 08:19 PM: Message edited by: Night Stalker ]
