That's not mystra, if I remember right. That's just some mage friend.

true, if mystra were probably in her "goddess" form, so to speak, the idiot magelords magic would have just bounced off her. But anyway, i just got done with that book not too long ago.

I really don't want to re-read that book. That's one of the few books I don't own. And I didn't like it enough to go rent it, and then read it again.

Ok boys we dont need to reread the novels I got the answer right here! In my copy of Elminster: The Making of a Mage, the answer is on page 327. Here it goes.
The white flames were gone, and Mystra seemed only a languid, beautiful human woman. She rested her head on his shoulder and said softly," Now your road must be alone, Elminster, for the more I walk Toril in human form, the more power passes from me, and the less I become. Thrice I died as Myrjala, watching over you-here, in Ilhundyl's castle, and in the throne room in Athalgard...and with each death I am diminished." Remember, while Mystra was in human form she had the name, Myrjala, in case you don't remember.

A god can have as many Avatars as they like but they would be useless (basicly statues) because A god must concentrate on an Avatar to use it and the more he or she concentrates on it the more powerful it is. Say a god wanted to stroll down town he needn't concentrate too much on it but if he, just for 'fun', decided to go masacer the 9 hells he could probably have no other Avatar because he would be excercing far to much effort to do anything else.
It also depends on the power of a god. A weak god won't have as many (or as powerful) max avatars as a strong god. See gods arn't all powerful BACK ON THE FIRST TOPIC!!! So what ARE Bhaals 3rd ed stats?
