Well Germany won but you can not say the US did not play well enough to win themselves. Maybe half and inch and that ball would have been over the goal Kahn played a great game.

Points to ponder:
1. The Germans resorted to their typical defensive, dour, boring, create-no-chances-rely-on-someone-else-to-stuff-up kind of game plan and only scored off a USA mistake. Other than that they created no chances and looked positively pedestrian against a very pacy US team. 2. USA should have brought Mathis on earlier, Donovan had it all to do from right wing and often had to go himself as McBride had a shocker up front. 3. Beasley for Lewis on earlier to expose the ponderous German backs. 4. USA created a zillion more chances and played positively but lacked the finishing touch up front - poor finishing from Sanneh and Donovan, who is more a winger than a striker IMO. 5. Kahn had an outstanding game, kept his team in the WC. 6. Handball against Germany went unpunished - should have been a penalty (since it was a GOAL for all money) but not a card (since it didn't look intentional). 7. The Germans are brilliant thespians. 8. If the Germans play like that vs. Spain or Korea they will get hammered. On to the next quarterfinal tomorrow. VAMOS ESPANA!!! |

I'm kinda sad right now, first England (major bummer), and now the USA. It's not really that i expected them to beat Germany, but i sure as hell hoped they did. At least the US leaves the WC with their heads up high, they surprised the entire footballworld including me. It's been a long time since i saw a team work so hard. They're not overflowing with talent, but their hard work made it a joy to watch them. I'm really sorry they're out now and we have to watch at least one more game of BORING Germany.

Johny it looks like what you said at the previous thread is coming true:
Germany are going to win the world cup by boring their opponents to death...

Lanthir, too bad the US didn't make it, they had a couple of good chances. They really had an impact this WC, maybe next time ? Btw, check your pm box.
