Well unfortunaly you are not going to see much of Fort Benning, other then the woods, and tdhe training areas . Fort Benning itself is the home of the infantry. It is broken up into two training brigades Sand Hill, and Harmony Church. If you are lucky like me you will get assigned to Sand Hill, it is the newest and most mordern of the two, with really nice barraks. Harmony Church has old falling apart WWII barracks. Your going to go through OSUT (One Station Unit Training), that is where your Basic and AIT are combined into 13 weeks of hell. Most MOS's go 8 weeks of basic and then get a leave and go somewhere else for AIT. Don't let anyone lie to you and tell you it is easy, it is not. We had two people in our plattoon try to commit suicide. I'm not trying to scare you I just want you to be prepared. If you go into it with the proper attitude you will be fine. I in fact thrived on it and in a perverse way enjoyed it. The biggest thing to remember is that the first 3 weeks are the toughest, if you can make it through that you should be able to go all the way.

I was an NCO in the army and just got out a little under two years back. I started off in the field artillery during the gulf war and moved into an AG job after the first enlistment. Basic wasn't too bad for me. Just remember to stay calm when you're getting screamed at (you will), act smart and disciplined, and do the things you're required to do to the best of your ability. If you're fairly tough mentally and in decent physical shape, you'll do fine. If you're going to have college under your belt, make sure and go to OCS if you want to make the military your career.

I went to Basic Training at 192 lbs (I'm 6'3") and come out of Basic at 167 lbs. I ate everything they put in front of me too. Remember, no matter how bad it is, don't lose your temper. They do all of this for a reason. They are all pros and know exactly what they are doing. You will find no better soldiers than your Drill Sergeants. They really do care about you and your training. They want you to be the best and that's why they will push you so hard. Here is another thing to think about when you are going through tough training. The skills you learn during Basic Training are the basis for the rest of the training you will recieve throughout your military life. Also one day those individual skills your learn there, may save your life. Just a word to pass on.

Every company I have ever worked for loved to get ex-military techs, because of their Can-Do attitude and their ability to function with little or no supervision.

I plan on joining the ANG (Air National Guard) as soon as a graduate from HS next year. Thats gonna be many months away from IW ! My ultimate goal is to fly a Stealth Fighter, but if not that then i'll stick with F-16

dizzy, don't go...none of you..
Don't go to different places, meet different people and their cultures, or have a good time, don't do it.

I had a blast in the Army Engineers in my time. I to joined at 17. I went too Ft. Lenardwood, MO. in 80. Trained in combat, construction, destruction, and finally obstruction..

No, really sounds like a great plan for all of you!

( p.s. when the wimpy DI starts makeing you cry, remember your battle skills and keep cool.)
