A little off topic but I object to the generalising of people putting them into groups and so forth but anyway. High school and as its called here in Ireland secondary school is a waste of life and the people who thrive on being part of the group are human garbage and i am so bored of it. i could tell you stories but I could be prosecuted and I dont tell tails.

Um.. not being critical, Jabidas, but why is it a waste of life? I'm being serious here. Never mind the other students - why is school so boring for you? Do you not enjoy learning? Or do you feel the subjects are not relevant to your future ambitions?

Oh dont get me wrong Fljotsdale im very good at school and with sod all effort I just find it amazingly dull and most of the stuff we do learn in school has no relevence on what were going to have to deal with in life. If someone learns yeah whatever good luck to them but i object to sitting through garbage about monochromatic light and so forth but I have to do it to get the required points for what i want to do in college despite the fact aside from that its a waste of my time.

I have a lot of objections too many to type but I have to deal with it all the same no matter how I reject the systems way of shoving me through it because by the time it changes for the better Ill be in a home for old people.

Er... I guess you are one of nature's natural pessimists, Jabidas! My son was like you! I was pretty much the same in school as well - being very bright in a bog-standard school CAN be dull. I always used to sit at the back of the class - unless some officious teacher made me sit at the front - so that when I had finished the lesson I could just sit and read a book on my lap, hidden from the teacher, while the rest of the class finished their work... er... maybe I shouldn't have told you that..!

When I was younger, I used to be really really shy, and sometimes I still am. The trouble for me is meeting a new person. I will walk into a room and find someone I don't know in there, and I won't go up and introduce myself, or talk to them. I simply can't bring myself to do it, although it is getting a little better. I am afraid this is often seen as being a snob.
At my school, there are only about 3 major groups, and there isn't that much rivalry or whatever between them, so I can't really relate to the whole "Geek vs Jock" mentality.
Fljotsdale: As I have said, I was shy when I was younger (until about 14 I would say), but I sort of made a decision I guess. I didn't like not being able to aproach people, and I felt even worse when I saw other people do it without even thinking. So I guess I just forced myself to start socialising with other people, and I started to get over it. I think a lot of the reason I was uncomfortable meeting people was because I felt that I didn't or wouldn't fit in with them, and they would be looking at me saying something like "Who is this little kid anyway?". I think as I have got older I have found my feet a little more, and I don't worry as much anymore about what people might think, or do think, about me.

anyway, my rant is over

a Rennisance Man(sp?) redneck and philosopher what's the world coming too?
The real kicker is the first reunion that you go to, most of the petty crap is gone and almost everybody is grownup. Then we get to see what we missed dealing with each other as people. Youth is waisted on the young.

Yes, but interestingly enough, I think everyone has missed the jist of RudeDawg's post in the first place, which was that "high school politics" seem to be creeping into people's interactions here on the forum and in messaging. Which is DEFINITELY not cool.

I agree about the HS problem considerably. When I went to my 10th year reunion (back in 1991), it's like all these people were coming up to me and clapping me on the back and saying "Hey, buddy, how's it been!" And I'm allowing them to hug me, dazed, looking at them and thinking, "What the heck are you on? You treated me like SH** in HS."

I watched them...all these former "jocks" and "cheerleaders" and "Bright People" who had made my life and so many of my friends lives living HE** for four years...some of them were gas station attendants, others were clerks in stores, some of the girls had 4 kids and broken marriages...

and I stood there, having just gotten a Ph.D. and looking at a future in teaching higher education in a different state, while they were still trapped in Monroe, and I shook my head and thought, "And at one time I actually let what you people thought of me AFFECT me?!"

and I walked out.

Call me petty, call me boorish, call me whatever you like. I walked out, and I did NOT look back.

I won't be returning for my 20th reunion this year. Whatever healing I've done I've done on my own.

Glad you mentioned that Saz! I was just saying to RudeDawg that it seemed everyone latched onto the High School metaphor and didn't see the online part of his post!

I got the reference to the online H.S. attitude in Rudy's post as did I bet a lot of others but how many of us are really aware of who is judging Rudy for who he hangs with online or who is making a popularity contest of Ironworks?

I am assuming that the person RudeDawg is having a problem with has been made aware of this problem by RudeDawg and in private. The rest of us are merely making comments on our own H.S. experiences and how they do or don't affect us in our adult lives and such.

If the person RudeDawg is referring to has not caught on, maybe someone should be a bit more direct? Cause if it is me (lol) I missed what I did wrong and where!

Off that subject, I did not attend any reunions, being way to far away to make it back but I learned through the grapevine that some people still hold grudges (the pressure-cooker potato incident mentioned in another thread lol) and that some people just never change. The biggest jocks and most adored kids from my H.S. years are addicts, alcoholics, or dead. Sometimes it pays to get away.
