I wholeheartedly agree with you, except on one point... This particular sickness is a purely human thing, there is no other species that produces this kind of aberration... animals are far more civilized.[/QUOTE]Chimpanzees have been observed and documented as engaging in 'dynastic abductions' in which children of a particular dominant 'family' are pre-meditatedly stolen and eaten, resulting in a power-struggle in which usually one of two rival groups is exterminated or violently subdued.
Dolphins also engage in pre-meditated murder and thought-out attacks against members of their own groups.

I think the bottom line is; the larger the brain, the larger the temptation for power and self-indulgence. Whoever murdered that girl has little mental capacity for controlling of their violent, sexual impulses and as such is a degenerate cretin. Murdering him (and evidence suggests that the offender is male) upon capture might be good for sating society's wrath, but it would be more expedient to put him to work as expendable labour in the mines or some such area where he will probably die quite quickly anyway.

Whoops. Time to update my preconceptions... I didn't know either of these things, though I'm not too surprised about the primates. I dimly recall something about cannibalism from a Physical Anthro class, but that was almost twenty years ago...
Dolphins too? That's rather depressing. I'm seeing Flipper in a whole new light, now.

Whoa... a five-eyar-old kid? Give me a break.

I mean yes, it is indeed dumb and pathetic to do it but a five year old? Geez this girl might not even have experience some facts of life yet.. and to do it in front of her playmate was really crushing. I'd rather die or be killed than see my significant other be raped...

Considering they were kids though... they might not even grasp the whole weight of the situation... dang...

I personally dont care how much these people suffer. They sure werent humane to their victim. As far as that goes the only thing that would make us more like them is if we enjoyed their suffering. I certainly wouldnt "get off" on their pain but it wouldnt bother me to know they suffered an agonising death. They should get what the victin went through----TENFOLD.

IF they DIDNT suffer-- that would be an injustice.

Hang the Bastard
Hang him high
Hoist his body to the sky
Its as nice as a day can be
Wont ya come to the hangin with me??

True Earthdog, I woudnt mind if the killer suffered a bit. But torture wont bring back Samantha, and nothing that could be done to him would equal what he did to her.

If there is a god, on which subject im not interested in another debate, then He should be more than capable of dealing with this person. And if there isnt then there is nothing to be done in any case.

it might not bring the samantha back but it's what the bastard deserves.i think putting him in a cage in full view of the public to starve to death would be a nice start.and when he was too weak to defend himself, they should put in rats to eat him alive.

Right. And then they should tape pieces of cheese all over him so the rats will know to eat into him gradual-like.

There's quite a great deal of difference between justice and revenge. It's unnerving to see how many bloodthirsty people we have in here.

Okay, this'll be quite controversial... no flames, please!

There are quite a few bloodthirsty people in here, true. But we humans react that way if someone or something tzhreatens our way of life. The fact is, thjat we humans are basically Instinct-contrilled, sexist, racist, nationalist, individualist, etc... beings. By instinct, we refuse any change imposed on us by others. We have to live with it.

Living in a huge, densely connected society as ours puts a lot of subliminal stress on the individual, because we know almost instantly what happens 12000 kilometres away. We know about thousands of sickos like Robert Steinhaüser, Saddam, The 9/11 Hijackers, and so on. Because of the size of our Nations, and of the extreme exchange of information in our World, we hear of things that otherwise wouldn't have influenced us at all. This means that we are constantly forced to change something. Imposed Change is against human nature, so we react rather forcefully. These reactions include the thoughts of imposing extreme violence on the ones responsible for the changes. It's just Human nature, thus, it's normal.

Again: Please, no flames!

Well they have arrested their suspect, a 27 year old man who looks exactly like the sketch.
Let's hope justice prevails.
