Well at the very minimum it makes sense to choose a Fighter[2]-Druid over the straight druid. For next to no effort you get a character who can wear armour (and cast in it) and gets an extra 1/2 attack per round.

I've decided to go the easy, lazy route and just multiclass my druid into a fighter/druid. I've always loved multiclasses anyway.

Good. A fighter/druid gives good mileage as a caster and archer type (although restricted to sling). It is also at least half decent in melee, due to the ability to wear metal armour and get weapon specialization (2 PP) in numerous weapons - go for scimitar, sling (Missile Weapons prof.), spear, and maybe one each in staff and dagger - club is nearly useless.
