"Well I guess we'de better shed some light on the situation." dantes chuckled. With that Dantes began the workings of a spell, within a few seconds a soft light lit up the area, bathing everything in its revealing glow.
OOC: good old 1st level light spell, nothing beats it. I have it centered on whoever is closest to syrathic, but within my vision, I dont know who that is at the current time with the batte so I will let Cyril decide. From what I grasp it would be Brendon.

ooc: Good call, Azrael. I am going to assume that Brendon is willing to have the spell cast on him – thus there is no need to worry about a saving throw.

The elf is stubborn and will not follow. But still his eyes cannot see the hound for its form has literally become one with the shadowy darkness. And so the hound follows the elf, stalking him patiently. The elf turns to the others to speak and the muscles of the hound’s limbs tense and prepare to spring. Once more it strikes, but is unable to secure its prey in the grip of its jaws. Once more it bounds swiftly to blend with the shadows, but the shadows themselves disappear, dispelled and scattered by a sudden burst of light. Surprised, the great black hound stands off-balance and exposed.

ooc: Syrathic - You are bitten for 2 hp of damage. You also have the initiative and the creature is in plain view.
Brendon - You are presently the center of Dantes' light spell. You have a choice. You can either attack the two grimlocks closest to you or move out of their way and fire one shot at the hound.

ooc: Some Quick Bookkeeping
* Brendon - The Grimlock leader has been slain. There are still two grimlocks near you. You also have the option of aiding Syrathic – see above.
* Morguerat - The grimlocks attacking you are both dead and you can feel free to aid one of the others.
* Ruby and Wyrd - Of the five grimlocks attacking you - 2 are dead and the remaining three are stunned and helpless. You can easily kill them this round.
* Dankorona - The grimlocks attacking you are both dead.
* Rhianneth - The two grimlocks that had attacked you are wounded and stunned – you should be able to easily kill them this round.
* Syrathic - Thanks to the light spell you finally have the hound in your cross hairs.
* Dantes - You will have an easier time aiding Brendon with the 2 grimlocks attacking him than in attacking the hound for your next action.

NOTE: Cerek has mentioned to me that RL demands upon his time will make it difficult for him to participate in this thread for the time being. That being the case I am going to assume that Zachary will defeat the five grimlocks he is presently facing and will then post his character out of the party in a way that will leave his eventual return an open possibility.

Recovering his crossbow and dropping his sword for the moment, Morgueratloads and aims the device, as everyone seems to be handling things well, he takes aim and fires at one of the creatures near Brendon watching as the quarrel strikes deeply into it's flesh with a sickening *thud* the impact nearly knocking the creature off it's feet (OOC 8 points on a critical hit) Morguerat was glad he hadn't hit any of the party members between himself and Brendon as he reloaded and looked for another party member that needed help in the combat.

OOC: I can finally stop twitching now that IW is back.

Syrathic was surprised by the creature's swift attack as he turned to speak to his companions. However, he was quick enough to avoid the being caught in the jaws of the hound, receiving a cut along the arm. "Quite the teeth that thing's got. It left a nice mark on my arm as rememberence." He glanced at his arm and noticed a small trickle of blood. "Just a scratch, as I had thought."

The sound of Dantes chanting came from behind him, and a bright light dissipated the shadows in front of him, revealing the hound. "What the hell?" the elf thought before putting two and two together and realizing that it was Dante's spell. "Yet another of my companions proving his worth. Now the hound is mine."

The hound was clearly off-balance as the shadows disappeared. Syrathic smiled in anticipation, tightening the grip on his long swords. With a shrug of the shoulders, his cloak fell back, revealing the dark leather armor he wore underneath. The hood stayed up, however, as he would not lower it for any reason. But his blades caught the magical light and shone with unabashed fury, and this light was reflected by his eyes underneath his hood. If the hound looked at him, it would see nothing but two blue orbs shining in the shadows of the hood, wraith-like in its menace.

The elf charged the creature quickly, covering the distance between them in the matter of moments. Both of his blades found their mark, as the creature had not recovered from the surprise of losing the shadows. The elf could hear the hound cry in anguish, but he ignored it and moved quickly to the side, in case the hound was not finished. He wanted to have time to react if the hound countered quickly.

ooc: There should be an opening for a shot at the creature without Syrathic being in the way, if the creature is still alive, that is.

It's good to be back! I hope everyone managed okay while we were down.

ooc: Syrathic - The hound is very badly wounded but is still alive, pending a post from Brendon.

Brendon Grey

"What the...?" Brendon said aloud as he began to glow in a bright light. He could see well enough to discern things around him. There was Syrathic, there were two ugly things that had been attacking him, and there was a hound of some sort looking like it's place in the world belonged in the darkness. It was obviously stunned by the light-show, though the other creatures seemed to be blind to the fact that there was now light in the cavern. They looked rather pathetic, but the dog-like creature was more menacing looking. Not taking any further thought, nor knowing if anyone else was aiming to kill the beast, Brendon decided to try and take it out first. If that light spell wore off, then it would be back on the aggression. Brendon fired one off, grabbed another arrow, and decided to watch the fate of the first missle, hoping it would do the trick alone. If one of those blind creatures got too close, he'd kick it.

The boisterous dim of battle again fills these corridors. The brief and painful silence left in the wake of the thunderous sound of Rhianneth’s spell is now little more than a memory stored within the throbbing of the humanoids’ ears. The black mastiff yelps in shock and pain as the elf’s blades bite deeply into its flank. It takes time to adjust to movement in such light and that is not time that is allowed it. Bounding away from the elf the hound catches the sound of movement in its ear and turns a startled eye in the direction from which the light had come. What its weakened eyes cannot yet see its ears perceive easily, something flies swiftly in its direction. The mastiff leaps, but there is no strength within its hind legs and its movement stops awkward and short only to be met by the bite of an arrow that collapses its lungs and ends its life.

Near the archer one of the grimlocks pulls up short in its attack, struck squarely by a crossbow bolt. The other lunges in the direction of the young man and, still disoriented, swings wildly narrowly missing him with its axe.

ooc: The shadow mastiff has been slain. One of the grimlocks attacking Brendon has taken 8 points of damage and the other is undamaged.

As the spell rolls of his tongue Dantes tightens his grip on his katana. The dim light illuminating his foes seems very unnatural in these tunnels. Dantes takes a fes steps forward with the confident ease of a practiced fighter. There were only a few of the creatures left, and they were scared and disoriented by the noise and the now hopelessness of this battle. Dantes watches as a creature swings wildly at brendon, then Dantes answers back with a swing of his own. This one was not wild. In fact it was the lighting quick strike a practiced fighter. Dantes is rewarded as the blade sinks deeply into the side of the grimlock. Unfortunately Dantes is unable to dislodge the blade as the creature falls to the ground, and there are other enemies about, but even without a weapon Dantes was far from helpless.
