"Aye I am as tuned into the stone as one can be, having worked and mined it for over 300 years. The pitfalls on the vast underdark are dangerous and many. There are magical illusions, spots of magical darkness, hidden pits, secret passages, and traps galore; and that is not even including the inhabitants, and the traps they set, or something set in place eons ago by long dead magic users, set to ensnare innocent travellers. Sometimes down here even the most innocuous thing can quickly turn into something of most imminent danger. There are many things that could hinder our progress, hopefully we will be lucky enough to avoid them. Hopefully. . ." Dankorona trailed off.

Rhianneth

She returns his gaze unblinkingly, her ears absorbing the gnome's words hungrily, then dismissing them peremptorily when they prove no more than what others before him had said.

Folding her arms, she advances now, the staff occasionally brushing against the ground. The darkness obscures the cynical expression on her face as she listens to the others' talk. Silence was her greatest ally, and she kept him tightly beside her, feeling his warm and comforting embrace.

The Underneath of the Forums

The lightlessness of this place has an unrelenting quality about it. The illumination provided by the coins forms so sharp and striking a contrast with the surrounding blackness that it is almost painful to see. Light is neither normal nor natural within this sunless realm, a fact that the steady erasure of light by darkness as the party moves forward all too readily confirms. Small things scurry away as the light draws near to them and the small illumined area within which the party moves is little more than a small and lonely place within this great sea of dark and shadow. The passage widens somewhat as the group moves forward, gradually reaching a point at which 3 might stand abreast and still be able to move without fear of stumbling into one another. Strange sounds can be heard echoing through the tunnels ahead, sounds that seem vaguely like scraps of argumentative conversation, but no words are clearly discernible, nor can the distance of their origin be determined with any accuracy.

ooc: I’m leaving town Saturday morning and will be away for a week visiting my brother. I’m not sure how much posting I’ll be able to do while I’m away and so things will in all likelihood be a bit slow moving on my end here until just after the holiday.

But, by all means don't stop posting. There are some interesting character interactions that have begun to take place in the thread. By all means, feel free to move with them.

Brendon

Brendon held up his hand in a sign for everyone to halt. There was obviously going to be something living in this dark realm but he had no idea what. Trying to speak loud enough in a whisper for a few nearest him to comprehend, Brendon said..."Do we even have a plan in case we are attacked by something? I mean...we never have thought out any strategies. We may be our own worst enemy for lack of planning if we do not know what we'll be doing when the time comes!

"That's a good idea, Brendon," Syrathic agreed softly. "I'd prefer to be in the shadows as much as possible, but I don't want to be accidently shot by anyone, or be hit with a magic spell." Here he gazed in Rhianneth's direction. "But I am not a strategist. I think my main help will come in the form of scouting and attacking from the shadows. I hope we will be able to take advantage of my talents."

The elf wondered what his companions were thinking. What kind of reaction were they having to this oppressive darkness? The only one who seemed fairly comfortable was the gnome, but then again, that would only be natural. "Then again, the other have those glowing coins. I suppose that would help some." Syrathic did not regret taking a coin, however. Like he had stated, he felt that the coin might hurt his stealth abilities and his dark vision. "I'm better off without it," he reassured himself. "I'm only feeling better because I'm near the group, that's all. It's not because of the light." But he knew he wasn't fooling himself.

ruby was unsure how to respond. a plan of attack sounds good, but in the actual fight, often those needed abandoned. herself and wyrd had many plans and each knew their roles. perhaps explaing how they have fought before would be a good response.

"wyrd and i stick with simple fighting. he attacks physically and i do what i can with my mind. i have a sword because sometimes i'm too close to the fighting to avoid becomming involved physically, but i prefer leaving wyrd to his job, his passion. a male lion's role is protect family. i have not fought often with others on my side. but i do my best to protect them as well."

she looks at syrathic and can feel his discomfort. her empathis side wishes to hum and calm him, but she fears needing it to be loud when he scouts, she has no desire to alert more creatures than necassary to their presence.

Question Mark

"I think our current arrangement would work out rather well, Zachary should perhaps move forward, near the front, but behind Brendon, as he is also a heavy fighter, in addition to his priestly abilities. Dantes should stay in the middle to rear where his maic can be useful against foes on all sides, Dankorona would probably work best up with Zachary watching for pitfalls and other dangers we might stumble into as a group, that a single scout would miss, I will stay here as a rear-guard, where my minor magics, and psionics can help improve my comabt abilities, if there is something ahead of us, it may very well be expecting us, I don't expect one would survive long here without being proactive in their defensive strategies." Morguerat looked around at the other members of the group and wondered how they'd react to his suggestions, or if he'd lost his ability to lead and inspire others along with the rest of his god granted abilities as a paladin

Rhianneth

She smirked in the ensuing silence, her feet quietly tapping the ground as the group stood there in most contemptible inertia instead of pressing on. Of course, a part of her mind agreed with the need for preparations, but... I never said I was magnaminous... ~ And so, she silently sneered at those two, her lips never betraying her revulsion beyond a frown. All that anyone could extract from her was a challenging gaze in return.

Patience, Rhianneth... patience. ~ Well, she would certainly need it, the way things were going.

Brendon Grey

Brendon chewed on his lower lip, contemplating what he was hearing. He nodded in approval at what Morguerat was saying, but continued to listen...

Syrathic smiled unconsciously as Ruby hummed, her melody calming his nerves a bit. He didn't actually notice the humming, but it seemed to strike a chord in his brain, and he began to relax. His spirits were lifted and he was ready to move once again.

However, he could also feel Rhianneth's eyes on him, and he didn't like it one bit. He stroked the gnome's knife underneath his cloak, wondering if it had the balance necessary to be thrown well. A quick flick of the wrist, and he could take care of the problem... However, he'd have the rest of the group to face afterwards, and he did not want that. He genuinely liked them, and he did not want to cause a ruckus, so he put his thoughts away. "I'm here to help rid these forums of evil and find lots of treasure. That's enough to think about for the time being. Especially with this oppressive darkness." Here he shivered again, but the feeling was quickly gone due to Ruby's humming. "Even if this it is perfect lighting to get rid of the problem..."

Aloud, he said to no one in particular, "I'm going to assume then that my role will be as I stated? I am open to suggestions, in case anyone has an idea for me."
