Rymoth del'Arboleda

Rymoth emerged from the tree and Coni took immediate flight. She had not liked the portal transport, and wanted to free herself from the sick feeling it left in her. Rymoth smiled and spoke out to her, "Fine thing then...while you are up there, see if you can find our new friends." Coni called out her approval of the plan and circled about, looking for signs of the travelors. After about 20 minutes of flying, she had spotted them. Racing back to Rymoth, she eagerly reported her findings. By now, it was getting dark, and Rymoth had to wonder. Would it be better to go now and announce himself to them, or wait until morning? He decided that morning would be the best because they would be more defensive at night...and less likely to greet him openly as they might in the daylight. Deciding instead to bed down, Rymoth pulled himself up to the same oak tree and crossed his staff over his legs. Coni Saví nestled upon his shoulder.

OOC>>>I assume that I am about an hour's walk away from the camp. Coni flies very fast, as she is a young falcon. I have decided to camp out where I emerged from the Oak. In what direction I am, I do not know. I assume that I am behind the party, and that if they were to travel, they would be going away from me. I can catch up by mid-morning, if the DM allows, and Coni will probably be watching over the party when I ask her to. The party can take the initiative to notice her if that is desired...Am I leaving anything out???

Ni Deng

The gardener wasn't quite sure what to think. The destruction of the amulet would rid the world of one more evil, and that'd be a good thing. But Addison had resisted it's influence for so long already. If he could truely master it and retain his sanity, there was little that could stop him, and evil would tremble all the more.
After his death, of course, the amulet would still have to be destroyed. Ni Deng doubted he could find anyone who could resist and actually destroy the thing. Many had tried already.
Getting rid of it now, completely destroying the thing, would be for the best. Unfortunately, though he was still near the anvil and hammer he'd told Addison could destroy the amulet, he knew there was only a small chance it would actually work.
By Ni Deng's knowledge, only the warlock trapped inside the gem could shatter it. And he either didn't know how to, or thought there was still a chance of escaping and returning to life. The only way to destroy it would be tricking Carrick into doing it for them. But he should definately try.

"I will be also going with you. I am thinking my bones won't be liking the chill either."

Skye smiled at her companions. "I don't believe there is anything else that has not been said. I'll try to stay more out of trouble... Now let's go save the man that you speak of, Addison." She picked up her belongings, readying herself to leave.

GLOOMWOOD

The two patrols that had been sent to the river have returned reporting no sign of this small band of enemies. His eyes narrow. This then is not some band that will rush into the predictable actions of panicked flight. “They can control their fear,” he says, a grudging note of respect in his voice. This respect for worthy opponents does nothing to diminish his hatred for them, however, but only argues that they be slain as swiftly as possible. A cruel smile stretches his thin lips and through his exposed fangs he speaks, “The hearts of enemies that control their fear make for a splendid feast.” Turning to his runners he says, “Bring my captains. There is much to plan.”

Sharwenn Evensong

Having reached what seems to be a place of relative safety she sits quietly as the others go about the business of making camp. More so than the wound she has received, the emotions of the day have exhausted her. The autumn days are growing short and the mist of evening is beginning to gather and soon it will mute both sound and vision. Taking a moment to notice the bright colors of the leaves, she finds herself hoping that the humanoids have managed to drive away some of the larger predators that stalk this wood. She should probably be thinking of possible strategies but she is too tired for that right now and so to distract herself she makes small talk with Kira, “I am from the Longwood which runs along the coastal region south of the city. It is a very different forest from this place, a much safer place if a bit less mysterious.” After a slight pause she continues, “I know only what I have heard of this forest and what I have gleaned from the few maps I have seen. I came here to test myself against the challenge of crossing it for few can claim to have done so.” With a laugh, she adds, “The challenge has been somewhat greater than I had expected.”

GLOOMWOOD

There is blood upon the air and, better still, the soaking of blood into the soil and the rich scent of blood upon the autumn air is enough to stir the great black willow from its pre-winter lethargy. Bright red colored leaves dance happily in the slow moving air and slowly, almost soundlessly, roots begin to detach themselves from the earth. It is a slow journey, but when one has lived for seasons that have become difficult to number the passing of time loses its urgency. By day’s end one more tree stands in the mist shrouded site of the battle and roots reach outward into the soil and drink. Stirges have arrived as well, and in good numbers and hover greedily above the bodies of the dogs. The willow shifts the disposition of its limbs extending them in a warm invitation to perch and rest to the blood-glutted creatures. Soon the entire covey is upon it branches and with a deep breath from within its trunk, the willow sends a complacent drowsiness over them. The limbs shift again and a maw opens in the trunk and the slumbering stirges tumble into it. The willow feeds and from the signs of battle it would seen that the humanoids have challengers. It is pleased, for the winter passes so much more easily when one is well-fed before its coming.

ooc: Have I mentioned lately how much I like monsters?

GLOOMWOOD – North of the Crystalflood River

The safety of these laurels has provided a few hours of rest. Indeed, most of the morning has given way to the warmer air of noon. But the wanderings of the night have made the trail away from here hard to find and the young man is lost.

ooc: DMs Note: - Unless characters have some explicit training in wilderness survival or other means of finding their way, the Gloomwood is far too difficult a forest to navigate without getting lost.

Feeling the burning eyes upon her back, she nevertheless continues sipping her drink, occasionally looking up at the serving lass and wondering what possibly that odd fellow had meant about this place.

I'm probably wasting my time... as well as good coin. ~ Her lips pursed and her iris darkened. Glancing out of the left window, she discovers that it is close to daybreak.

Time to go.

Without a further word, she nods at the wench and gets up, crossing over to the door and ready to continue on her journey.

Two thoughts were running through his nauseous mind as he stood shakily, surveying his surroundings. The first, definitely the more dignified was How on earth can Kira survive in such a setting? It pressed upon him the urgency of locating his beloved... but this only led to the second and more pathetic thought that now haunted him ~ I shall die before I reach Kira!

And now, the second voice was buzzing in his ears, but try as he might to swat it away, it persisted as a tenacious mosquito, ready to sting when he was least alert.

He wondered how far he had gone into the forest, how far Kira was from him, and how they would ever meet again in this lifetime. The name of the forest was so apt that he could not help sighing his defeat, at least for the moment.

Whatever it is, oh dear gods above... if I must die... please... let it be a painless, instantaneous death... never... EVER... let me mauled to death.

Almost glad that Kira was not around to witness this moment of vulnerability, he sat down upon the damp ground and buried his head in his arms and knees.
