The Ravine

All is darkness in this place for even on the brightest of days the sun’s rays penetrate between these steep walls only with difficulty and only for the briefest of times. The occasional flare of lightning discloses that at the base of the ravine lie the broken boulders of a collapsed cliff face, a mountain of rock difficult to move under the best of conditions when the eye might provide a sure guide to one’s progress and direction.

ooc: How will the dragon work in the nearly complete darkness?

The Banewolves

Once more their howling splits the night air for theirs is hunger that is also unrelenting and once more their prey is near at hand.

Falling to her knees, she immediately shifts to wolf form, her eyes blazing silver as she slams her front forepaws on the ground in front of the sword...

Lightning flashes, producing a sheet of blue/silver flame around her, the sword...

and the Hunger...

She whispers softly into the growing winds....
"Do you remember me? I remember you......

and you shall regret it............"

reaching up, she touches the moonstone with a paw, and softly whispers a name into the wind...."Arverais...."

She looks at the sword, then the sky as a pure silver bolt of lightning strikes the sword hilt, encasing the sword in the storm....

She briefly glances towards the elven girl, and snarls into the wind....

"Take the rune in front of you, on the ground... go... go to the oak, and it will take you to Arcades.....GO!"

Returning her attention to the sword and the Hunger, she hears the howls in the distance and smiles only as a wolf can...

The storm intensifies around the area, the wind whipping the ground into dust, forming a protective barrier in front of the barrier of flames.....

After several minutes of trying to get his eyes to adjust to the darkness, Arcades growls to himself and draws in a deep breath, using powerful, white dragon fire to superheat the stones around him.

The burning red stones give off enough ambient light for him to continue shifting the monumental pile of rocks.

You will not remain safe in your hole for long, Hunger. I will see to that.

Anarrima 67/67

The elven cleric did as she was told. Following the pathway that the Druid had given, Ana found herself at the Ravine, peering down into it and seeing the golden dragon working furiously to remove the boulder that hid the Hunger from the sunlit world.

All of these years she lived under the earth, in darkness and hidden from her Goddess and the blessing of light. The very ones that had come to save her were all now nearly wiped out...killed for a cause that had brought them together. This cause was to ensure the destruction of a supernatural force inside this very hole, and although most of the party did not make it even this far, she and Ruby had.

Now she owed her loyalty to the memory of those fallen by the wayside. If this was their mission, then this was her's. And it was time to get back into contact with her Goddess.

Knowing a powerful dragon would know when magic was being worked near it, Anarrima began to call upon the powers of her Goddess, supplicating her to grant the powers needed to work this wonder.

If she failed, she did not know if there would be another way to destroy this creature. So she must do this right and quickly.

"Lady Fairhand, here the voice of my mouth! As I call upon thy powers this day, I beg for forgivness that I have been away so long, yet never have I forgotten thy loving touch nor the beauty of the morning that thou bringeth every day! I implore thee to grant me this power that I seek that I might rid the world of the evils that have befallen it! Lady Ahurani! This very evil that is the Hunger is a bane to thy love and I must request it's removal from Ironworks!"

At this point, Anarrima closes her eyes and chants,

"Lasto beth nīn, tolo dan nan galad."

"Lasto beth nīn, tolo dan nan galad."

"Lasto beth nīn, tolo dan nan galad!"

At this point, the clouds part and three distinct Beams of Radiant Sunlight tear from the heavens and collide together into Anarrima's outstretched arms. She begins to glow with the raidance of the sun itself and though terrible is her countenance at this time, she is still alive somehow under all the brilliance. She speaks,

"Arcades! It is time and I cannot hold on much longer! Please....!"

OOC>>>Ana is holding the awaiting powers of three Sunbeams in her body, awaiting to release it when the dragon has cleared out of the way the boulders and himself. That way, there would not be but a second delay so as to not allow the Hunger to come tearing out of that hole and grab me, then climb a tall building.

The elvish words were borrowed from Arwen in LotR (movie version), when she was requesting Frodo to come back into the light.

Turning his long neck to see the one who called out to him and nods tward her solemly, then turns back to the final massive bolder sealing the Hunger away, digging his razor sharp talons into the stone.

With a tired effort, Arcades puts his strength into his task, moving the bolder back inch by inch untill...

...the festering cancer of the forums that calls itself The Hunger is exposed at long last to the world.

The weary dragon throws himself to the side, landing on the burning bolders he heated for light, calling up to the Elf woman

Do it now!!!

The Ravine

Wind and thunder fill this space with sound and these sounds are punctuated by the grunting of a dragon in mighty exertion against the boulders. Other sounds arrive just as the dragon tears the final rocks away from the bare soil within which lies the Hunger, terrible howls that chill the blood and numb the spirit. Ravenous and persistent they have come to the term of their pursuit and they will not be denied. The great cat springs outward from the place it had crouched in watchful readiness its claws striking heavy blows against the flesh of that one which had been already wounded by the dragon. Again the cat strikes. This time, however, its blows are answered as heavy jaws bite deeply into its flesh and a numbing rottenness invades its blood and bones. The limbs of the cat grow heavy and its senses begin to fall into a silent numbing slumber like those in the tomb .....

ooc: Wyrd is in bad shape. The lion has bought Arcades time in which to respond.
One of the banewolves is gravely wounded and the second is unharmed.

The Hunger

Suddenly the souls it seeks are not to be found for a mantle of storm surrounds the ancient blade and the lives it has sought are not to be found within the shifting motion of wind and the falling of rain. Near at hand, however, wind brushes the newly exposed earth and the attention of the appetite moves elsewhere where lives stand much nearer and much more vulnerable. Power, great power, is being invoked above it and life pours itself out in desperate pleading. And the Hunger reaches upward ......

ooc: By this point only a few souls would remain in the Spiritsword.

Question Mark

wyrd takes what strength he has left and moves as fast as possible. he refuses to leave ruby this way. he must go out defending her.

his weakened and drained body moves with the stiffness and gracelessness of the undead. his tired limbs pull him slowly to a small crack in the ravines wall...

he colapses in a lump inside his quickly found sanctuary, and closes his eyes. he calls out in his mind to his beloved. he will hold on to consciousness as long as he can.

OOC:wow! post 1000! now i'm peeing on the floor!

A mighty paw of the gold dragon throws two of the banewolves several feet back, and he focuses on the injured wolf, still bearing the marks of his claws.

Arcades circles the injured wolf, sizing it up and finally leaping on it, pinning the back legs of the banewolf to the ground and bites it's head, ripping it clean off it's body and spits it out, leaving part of the spine attached to it.

He then gets into position on the ground, covering himself with his functional wing, the golden scales glittering with magical protection as he gets ready for the light spell.
