In the US Constitution, the 5th Amendment relates to the right you have *NOT* to incriminate yourself. Basically, pleading the 5th (as the Detroit Mayor and his ~~illicit girlfriend~~ former chief of staff did during their hearings) says "I decline to answer on the grounds I may tend to incriminate myself". Or something like that.

Make more sense now?
