Syrathic withdrew his blades from the woman's back. "My apologies for your, uh... treatment," he said loud enough for the others to hear, knowing full well that he had done nothing but stop her, whatever anyone else seemed to believe. She would be using that against him for a long time. "I was only doing my job as night watch. If you wanted to come peacefully, perhaps you should not have snuck up on us while we rested."
He slipped around to face Rhianneth for the first time. From beneath the hood of his cloak, only the bright blue orbs that were his eyes could be seen. Again, he spoke for her ears alone. "I am Syrathic, and I shall be watching you as well. I have proven my abilities in stealth to you, I believe. Until you prove yourself trustworthy, your every move will be scrutinized by my Elven eyes. I expect that you will view me the same way. Anything less would be insulting to me and dangerous to you." With a nod of the head, he turned and was gone. "An overconfident woman," he thought to himself as he walked away, "but intriguing, as everyone is in this group. Half are a bit trusting, the others perhaps a little smarter. She would make great bait; I'll have to give Brendon credit for that one." He chuckled softly as he pictured it. "Hmm... I wonder why Dantes would want to have a private word with her? I wonder if he knows something... Perhaps I will have to ask my own qusetions later." He looked at the coins Zachary had pulled out. "I appreciate your offer, but I will politely decline. The light will hamper my stealth skills, I fear." He continued to walk away until he came upon the sleeping form that was Dankorona. He seemed to not be affected in the least by the commotion. "Hmm... I wonder if he has a knife on him?" With his quick hands, the elf quickly searched and found a small hunting knife. He also nicked his pouch of gold. "I wonder what else I can take before he wakes up?" He took the gnome's boots and slipped the money in there. Still no sign from the sleeping form. The elf continued by taking the tent, carefully slipping it from around the gnome. "What does it take for this guy to wake up?" He shrugged and walked away, the gnome's things in tow. He sat down on a rock near Ruby, setting the gnomes things down next to him. "Somebody forgot to wake the gnome," he said simply. "I wonder how long it will take him to notice his things are gone?" The elf reached into the folds of his cloak and produced a small square of bread bound in leaves. He cut himself a piece with the gnome's knife. "Would you and your lion friend like a piece of my Elven bread? It may not be filling, but it will energize you." ooc: I decided to have a little fun with Dankorona, AzRaeL. Hope you don't mind. I hope his reaction is priceless. |

OOC: hehe no problem at all mess with him all you want to, thats what he is here for, just remember we need him to lead us through the caverns so just don't piss him off too bad. As for his reaction, we'll see what I can do, I will post a little later tonight.

Carefully picking up Dankorona Morguerat placed him on Clonin's back, attemping to prevent the gnome from waking. *throw him to the ground if he doesn't wake before we've struck camp, that should wake the layabout.* Morguerat silently told Clonin, as he gathered up his own possessions.

THE TREEHOUSE
Myron Epimetheus The little man sits still save for the moving of his lips and all is silent save for the whispered and confused mutterings that leave his mouth. He is lost, his mind adrift in a frightfully swift stream of doubts and unfounded assumptions, things which threaten to overturn the very possibility of thinking itself. Lies. Lies and delusions and mere flights of fancy – is this what all of the feverish labor of a life so exclusively devoted to knowledge has produced? He struggles to keep his head, his mind, above this current of confusion which rages around him but it seems that every time he does so there is a wrinkled black hand which forces his head down into the torrent of doubt that threatens to drown him. |

Brendon Grey
Brendon walked to the opening in the mountain. He peered inside, and smelled the air. It was not pleasant at all, nor could he see very far inside. He ran his fingers along the wall, studying the rock. Turning to the group behind him, he asked...to noone in particular, "So...what do you think is down there? Surely something lives here. Do any of you have cave inhabitant lore, besides our sleeping gnome?" |

Dantes remained rooted to the spot he stood when he first spoke to the stranger. His shadowed form staring intently at the foreboding opening to the cave, and the darkness within. The sight of the cave stirs up many memories within him. Memories of Dantes' past captivity in the caverns below, and memories of a great restless evil stiring deep below the earth in dark caverns untouched by light. Brendon's question snapped him out of his reverie.
"Yes I have been there before, with hope that I would never have to go back." Dantes responded, his voice sounding grave. Turning around Dantes asked, "Where is Dankorona? We will need his guidance to navigate through the myriad number of tunnels down there." OOC: I think Dantes will be able to wake the gnome, just point him in the right direction. ![]() [ 11-13-2002, 06:59 PM: Message edited by: AzRaeL StoRmBlaDe ]

Rhianneth
With the attention of her fellow companions (here, she cringed at the word) mostly shifted towards the entrance of the cave, she almost heaved a sigh of relief out loud. At the same time, she could feel the tension and resentment seeping away, not quite completely but at least reduced to the level of two specific males. Damn them! ~ Gritting her teeth, she tried to block out the torrent of thoughts running through her mind ~ How did they expect me to come up to them? Yell a hollering "Hello!" and wake up the very dead?! ~ And she seethed on, letting frustration goad her into a scowling expression ~ THAT would have been another excuse for them to accuse me of ill intent! No more words, Rhianneth... no more words. ~ She could feel his protective arms around her, trying to comfort her into silence ~ I know you feel misunderstood, but try to understand... Why the hell should I understand when others do not understand me?! ~ She swallowed a gulp, lest she unleash the rising shriek in her throat. She could almost picture his face of resignation and helplessless. It only tempted her to spit in his face further, even if it would make her berate herself afterward. Quick as lightning, however, she remembered. They had said they would be watching her back. She slammed the ghosts back into the chest and triple-locked it, her face resolute and weary at the same time. Just when would her quest end? |

Syrathic cut a piece of bread and handed it to Ruby."This amount here should keep you going for the rest of the day. I know it doesn't look like much, but believe me, it is. Unfortunately, you'll still be a bit hungry later. I don't have that problem; this is all I eat nowadays." The elf slipped the remains back into his cloak, neatly wrapped back up. "I can understand your friend here not wanting anything but meat. I used to eat a good bit of it myself years ago. However, I prefer just the bread now."
He moved a little closer to Ruby, but not close enough that Wyrd would be overprotective. "How can you tell that? The trusting part, I mean?" he asked softly. He sighed. "I suppose it's difficult when you don't know who you can trust. My parents were killed when I had seen but 40 years. It may sound like a lot to you, but I was still a child in Elven reckoning. And considering the circumstances... it left me with a suspicious streak. I've been adventuring for about 50 years now, which means I'm still not considered an adult in Elven reckoning, so you can imagine how all of my travelling has affected me. The only place I ever found welcome was with a group of Human rangers." He paused. "I don't know why I told you all of that. Maybe because you seem to be an outsider too. You seem different from the others somehow..." He looked up now and saw the group preparing for its descent into the darkness. He rose from his seat. "Perhaps later you can tell me something of yourself. But it looks like we're getting ready to head in. I'll leave you to your preparations." With a quick bow, he left Ruby and walked over to the crack in the mountainside with the gnomes things in tow. The darkness looked oppressive, but he felt ready. He couldn't see much from there, but he knew once his eyes adjusted to the darkness, he'd be able to see much better. "I'm as prepared as I'll ever be." Aloud, he said, "Whenever you guys are ready, I'm ready." |
