Ha ha
![]() I took a look at a FRUA icon of the mammoth - gee, that was a small mammoth! If a mammoth is only as tall as a human... Well, it's just not "mammoth," is it? (Pygmy elephants are larger than that...)

What?! That means that mammoths were dwarfed by huge ogres! That makes no sense!
Did FRUA have limits on icon sizes to 2 x 2 or something? What was the biggest icon ever in FRUA? ![]()

yeah, 2 x 2 was the largest normal icon. I say normal, as there was some talk of some hack that did 2 x 3 or something like that. yeah, and sweet mammoth, too; thats good and huge. It was crazy that in the 2nd edition Monstrous Manual they had an "oliphant" entry under elephant and it wasn't the towering gargantuan that was an earthshaking behemoth in Lord of the Rings (that was a sweet battle scene with the two types of cavalry (horse and oliphant)).

Ah - I see, no wonder why Ancient Red Dragons were just 2 x 2 (if I remember correctly).
Yeah, AD&D oliphants seem to be smaller (8'-10') than even the mundane (?) African elephant (11'). My mammoth is just 12' to keep it in the 2 x 2 size (10'-14', so it is average height). Then there are hollyphants (the outer planar elephants of good) and the maelephants (sp?) (the outer planar elephants of evil) ![]() ![]() The Lord of the Rings oliphants were definitely very cool, though. ![]()

2x3 was the largest Gold Box icon and it's doable in FRUA through a hack. It was supposed to be able to be done natively, but the original coders screwed-up a byte. So, once it was tracked down, it was an easy fix (I guess).

2 x 3 - meaning 2 (x) by 3 (y)?
Gee - icon size flexibility is one thing DC definitely has over FRUA ![]()

I always see it written as 2x3, but it should be 3x2 (3 x, 2 y)
I think icon size was one of the first things to be made "unlimited" back in the days before I was with the project. ![]() |

Hmm - strange that they limited it to 3 x 2, if they could do that, why not 3 x 3?
But anyway, I do appreciate that DC can do unlimited icon size (the only limit, I guess, might be the random placement of blockages in overworld maps that might cause problems with particularly huge icons). Anyone want to make a correct size blue whale icon? ![]()
