Whats so good about a kensai with armor? Use gauntlets of AC3, ring of protection+2, ring of earth control, cloak of the sewers, with a dex of 18 that will get you an AC of -7. Wearing full plate mail will only take that to -9. BIG DIFFERENCE!!

Let's move from [img]graemlins/offtopic.gif[/img] to the real discussion. How do you solo kensais manage to boost your AC to a decent value? I would hate to be killed by some charging gibberlings or pathetic Trolls. Also, what about mage fights?

I think they rely solely on offense. If your enemy is dead, he cannot hurt you. I dont think there is ANY danger of being killed by a gibberling though.

Mage fights:
Get the mage in sight, wait for him to cast all his protection spells, run away till they wear off, come back kick his a$$

How do you solo kensais manage to boost your AC to a decent value?

Kensai Bonus of +2 AC (AC 8)
Dex 18 (+4 AC = AC 4)
Dusty Rose / Lavender Ioun Stone (+1 AC = AC 3)
Ring of Protection +3 (+3 AC = AC 0)
Ring of Gaxx (+2 AC = AC -2)
Cloak of the Sewers (+1 AC = AC -3)
Shield Amulet sets base AC to 4 (+6 AC = AC -9)

so -9 is excellent to say we're not wearing armour. To furtherly boost this the kensai has the option of:

using a single weapon with ** in single weapon style to grant +2AC (AC -11)
OR dual wielding weapons that grant an AC bonus (i.e. Dakkon's Katana, axe of the unyielding etc) also has the potential to set AC to -11

If the kensai is part of a party, then the 4th level mage spell Spirit Armour sets base AC to 1, improving over the shield amulet by +3 to grant an AC of -14.

-14 AC!! and the spirit armour lasts for 10 turns which is enough to see you through many tough battles.

Back in BGI, I killed Sarevok like that: used a wand of summoning to surround him with a crowd of 20-30 gnoll slashers. Every 10 seconds a gnoll died, and every 10 seconds one of those gnolls scored a critical hit (the ONLY means to hit Sarevok). So he, despite all his fighting abilities, was overwhelmed, overwhelmed by scum! And I am afraid of the same situation. Being surrounded by, say, Shadow Thieves, scoring a critical hit once per 10 seconds... deja-vu!

All those are great! But:

1. To get those RoP +3 and Ring Of Gaax is no easy job.
2. I don't want to rely on Shield Amulet - effect doesn't last long. I think I have to, but...
3. I plan to go solo dual wielding CF and some other katana.

I think I have to completely re-view all the aspects of the game before going solo. And YES! I am going to play on INSANE!!! Adun help me [img]smile.gif[/img]

playing on insane with a solo kensai... i bet you don't even get out of johny's dungeon. Or if you do... you wont last long. Unless you have stoneskin, playing on insane is almost impossible. I suppose you could always lure the enemies out one at a time but... good luck getting the celestial fury, one backstab and you are gone.

BTW, where is the shield amulet found? I know ive found it before...

The shield amulet is in Nalia's keep, in the "cellars" (first room after you enter). I think it's in a trapped chest.
