Keep attacking him with weapons, and when he casts "Improved Mantle" run away from him until it wears off. And unless my game is funny, I didn't notice him regenerating! ![]() Have fun killing you arch rival for you soul! |

Ok, I find this very, VERY hard to believe. I could be wrong, maybe you had already beaten Kangaax and had the Ring of Gaxx. Maybe its the special edition and you got some really good stuff like the robe of Vecna that I can't get. Maybe you had found the Staff of the Magi as well, but I find that just too many maybes and what-ifs. The first 50 something times I tried to kill him, before getting ToB and without cheating, I died by the time his second Time Stop resolved. I eventually gave up and went back to level up my entire party to the max before I was able to win the game. I remember casting something like my whole spell book worth of protection spells before finishing off the last parasite, then saving the game and reloading over and over. I can recite his final speech on the tree easily...[/QB]
Just a small tip for surviving time stop. If you aint on screen when he casts it, hell either cast nothing at all, or things like true sight. Although sometimes they will advance, which is why I prefer tactic B, which is: Run like hell Summon the most minor creatures you can (So you dont waste a spell slot on a summoning spell you dont really need) Advance the summons to Irenicus one at a time. Laugh, as he wastes an entire Timestop on a wolf, gnoll or something of that nature. This way Irenicus burns more of his high-level spells. Irenicus is the most powerful magic-using enemy in the game, but the AI isnt up to making him a threat.

SPOILERS - - - - - - - - - Cast Monster Summoning 1 to get some Gibberlings or something. Who cares. Giggle to yourself as you watch the idiot use his only Death Spell. Cast Summon Hakeashar on the poor fool who has no physical attacks. Cackle out loud as you watch Jonny Heal your summon. When Jonny runs out of every spell except Magic Missile, cast Shield on yourself and jump in for a melee. Even if you can only hit on Criticals, you'll still get him. Shield will last for 5 turns. Now if you could only loot Jon's Robe..... Andrewas really had it down when he said: Irenicus is the most powerful magic-using enemy in the game, but the AI isnt up to making him a threat. Except for one thing: I thought Shangalar was tougher.

Well, I can only conclude that there is a HUGE difference between my game and whatever the special edition is. Next time I get to Irenicus I'm going to try to take some screen shots and show you what he does at the battle. He starts of with a wave of sequencers, triggers and contingencies, then casts a series of area damage spells that kills any summons other than Nishrus within the first few seconds. Then he starts casting the Time Stops and the first wave of level 8 and 9 spells, which as it turns out you basicly have to hope that the PC and either Aerie or Jahiera survives so you can resurrect whoever gets killed by the Wail of the Banshee.
Here's what I had the first time I played him. (original SoA level cap) Mage level 16 Aerie max Minsc max Valygar, can't remember Jaheira max Imoen level 15 I didn't have Ring of Gaxx, SotM, but I had a Robe of the Good archmagi on the mage and Imoen. Mage had Ring of Protectioin +2, Amulet of Power, Bracer AC 3, Ring of Earth Control for additional armor, cloak of mirroring, and a helmet. The rest of the party had GOOD equipment, but looking back I know that I had missed some very good items and they could have been better, but not THAT much better... |

Well... Spell Immunity:Evocation makes his Icefall a laughing matter, as do Globe of Invulnerability.
I made Aerie use the Girdle of Fortitude to boost her CON to 18. Watching Irenicus waste all his Wail of the Banshee, Power Word Kill and Power Word Stun on her was kinda cute. SixOfSpades has given the general approach on how you should handle Jonny though. Sacrifice summon, then proceed to lay a smackdown. ![]() |
