Yeah a cat that fat is, in reality, really a sad thing. I reckon if his face isn't Photoshopped to look like Garfield, then the cat is pretty scared, probably because of the photographers and news vehicles, and lights, etc., hence the bulging eyes. The obese cat knows it can't run away like a normal cat, so it is afraid of whatever/whoever it has to deal with.

The way I see it, as pet owners, you have to make the healthy decisions for the pet. The pet will NEVER make any heatlhy choices LOL.

Does anyone know what caused the animal to become so over weight? I mean is there some thyroid problem or something like that or is it just from overeating.

If it is just from eating too much then I am really curious why the owner allowed the cat to get that big; I actually wonder why the cat allowed itself to get so fat. I have had quite a few cats living with me throughout the years and they all took care of their weight themselves, so to speak. I mean we never fed them people food but we also did not regulate the cat food; if the bowl was empty someone filled it. I suppose every animal is different but I honesty did not think a cat would allow itself to get so overweight.

Is that what most pet owners believe or have observed with their animals?

Our cat became overweight in her later years when she stopped hunting and fighting and became more of a housecat (until she got kidney failure, lost all her weight and died). But she was about 16 then, lived to the good old age of 19. But she was never anywhere near that cat. As in, she could still run very fast, even with the added weight. I doubt that one could move.

I think some animals jsut want to overeat, like some people do.

What is really sad is the look of pride on the owners face...

After reading the article, I'd venture to say that it borders on neglect... if not hitting it outright.

She's definitely one of those people who should be banned for life from having any pets.
