SpiritWarrior: Wow...I did not realize that. Dang...now I want to live overseas.
TDC, thanks...I'll look but I wonder if I am even qualified for something like that...

Apparently you haven't had enough to drink yet tonight, Johnny. He was clearly telling you how great a guy you were, how much he truly loved you (but not in that way), and how his last euro was yours if you need it.
Doesn't sound like mockery to me... It's helpful to speak more than one language

Excuse me, but "brah brah brah burp" is an insult in some areas, matter of fact, my grandma, who sometimes takes a peek over my shoulder, now wants to kick the living crap out of Larry. I'm not sure what it means, but it must be something serious.

I'm sorry...I forgot to put the accent on the second-to-last brah because I was speaking in English and trying to translate it into Spanish, but failed to notice the grammatical mishap.
Tell your grandmother that there was no harm intended in my praise to her favorite iddle johnny-poo-poo.

Too late Larry, she's already on a plane. I tried to stop and reason with her, but she just kicked me in the nuts, that's what granny's do you know.
Look dude, i don't know if you own a rifle or a pistol, but if you do i suggest you use it the minute you see an old woman walking up to your frontporch, otherwise she'll nag you to death.

Larry, it may help you to think differently about what you're 'qualified' to do. I hate to think you might be marketing yourself only by a set of skills. This may well not work to your advantage as someone with language skills, because you may find that people (particularly monolingual people) devalue foreign language skills. After all, many such positions could be filled with a non-college grad who does not expect to be paid as well with the same skills. But they don't necessarily have your skills, and in any case they don't have any proof thereof. You have a 4 year college degree. You're with like 1% of the world's population. In the US you've still got quite an edge. You hold a solid humanities degree - you learned another language (reading, writing, and probably literary analysis) along with the host of other things you took to graduate. You do NOT need more school unless you're looking to get a masters in Spanish or something to teach it.
A lot of very good schools do not even have the kind of major that trains you to do some kind of specific work (like human resources, packaging, etc). Instead they've got majors like the one you took (plus the standard host of academic -not professional- fields), and the people who graduate from these institutions (liberal arts) tend to see themselves as well-rounded. I come from such an institution. All of this effort comes down to proving that you can learn and adapt at a fairly high level. Do a search for Bungleau + college to find one perhaps more convincing than I am on the subject ![]() This isn't to say you shoud apply for an engineering job on the basis of adaptability, but most positions do not require this amount of specialization. Besides, there is no ideal position that you won't have to learn and adapt to. To repeat myself: you've got the proof on paper than you can do that well. |

You need to network Larry - it's the best way to get a job. Have you talked to classmates/professors/recruiters/people who went to your school? What are your career goals?
