I liked 98. I went straight from a system running 98 to a system with xp, and I can't believe the number of updates I've run on xp, post sp2. Never had the misfortune of working with ME, so I can't say one way or the other, but from what I've heard, I didn't miss anything.

Point well taken, and experienced. I ran ME on my old PII 400 Compaq. A winning combination

However, as I was still learning the ins and outs of computers, and I was 17, I couldn't have cared less about spending another $100 on a better OS when the one I had did everything I needed it to.

Edit: and by 'everything', that boiled down to, IIRC, MS Word and Starcraft

That footage was actually for Windows XP. They were showing the plug n play feature of USB at the time. The other other computer worked fine.

Personally, I don't know what you 98' fans have been smoking. I've never seen a bigger bunch of junk. I would take XP any day over 98'. I have never used ME but I often hear that it's good.

98 was good but I like xp despite my current crash problems with it which are probably due to issues with the old hard drive it's on.

We still have some machines on 98 at the office but they're being phased out.

I think you'll find it was footage of 98, which is why Bill made the comment about not shipping 98 yet.

The USB functionality of Win 98 was a HUGE selling feature since 95 didn't support USB until OSR2 and even then it really didn't work.

XP certainly is a much better OS than 98, but it should be since it's based on a completely better and superior kernel. Windows 98 still had it's basic roots in Windows 1.0 which was DOS based and still had a great deal of legacy features which was one of the issues surrounding a lot of crashes. Windows Me was a poor attempt to remove some of the DOS dependencies of 98, but it ended up breaking the OS in the process.

So, is it ME or 2000 that people really like? I have never had an issue with my XP Pro. I have it on my PC which is 2 1/2 years old and my wife's PC which is my old one and is well over 6 years old.
I fact my wife's PC runs amazingly well. It's P3 866Mhz with 448ram. I had an error message on the Maxtor HDD at about 3 1/2 years pld and sent it back to Maxtor for a free replacement.

Between the two,

Windows 2000 = Good
Windows ME = Bad

And I am being polite to WinME here.
