What you need to do is go to tools -> options in Windows Explorer and uncheck the box that says "do not display extension for known file types" (or something similar). You will then be able to change the extension by renaming the file as normal.

One of the more annoying default settings I think!

Simply changing the extension doesn't change the format/content of the file. It's just a peculiarity of Windows that the content of a file is judged by a part of the name.

Yeah, that's the most annoying windows setting. Every time I install windows I disable it asap.

Erm... If you just change the extension by renaming it... Is that going to even work? Because they are completely different formats...

But you found a program... Which is what I would have recommended...
