What do u mean? iF u r a Mage or a Bard, u learn spells by scribing the spell from a scroll and into ur mage book, if u r a Sorceror u gain spells by leveling up.

About Familiars:
Your Psuedo-Dragon's taste for apples is just to give him/her some character, to give that aspect of the game more flavor. If you're Evil, you can also slap your Familiar around for no reason. The benefit of your Familiar is, basically, for hitpoints alone. They are NOT good fighters or spellcasters, and will never get better. Some have Thieving skills, but they're not good Thieves, and they won't Level Up either. Just keep your Dragon in your backback and enjoy your extra HP. Downloading the Bonus Merchants is NOT cheating, as they were always intended to be part of the game in the first place. Start your Mage off with Sling, and I'd go with Dagger more than Staff, as you do NOT want to take your Mage into melee combat until you're very familiar with the spells. Besides, by the time you find any really good Staves, you should have your 3rd weapon proficiency.
