Yeah, real-time is good...though I can settle for turn based...I REALLY only want a direct-control scheme, where a mouse click equals an action, not a command to some character...games with real-time are mre likely to have this. (think Morrowind)

I like RPGs. Had no opinion/other on the second question as it depends on which game I play. I like both styles but only if the game is designed for that. I like Age of wonders which is turnbased but for say NWN or BG I wouldn't want it.

I like RPG's but have put a lot more time into Shooters over the years, they just have a lot more going for them in the multiplayer experience IMO. Currently I'm playing Call of Duty MP with a bunch of friends over the internet a couple nights a week, Strategy and Tactics on a visceral level that's hard for any other genre (or indeed ANY single player gaming experience) to match.

Bar some unfruitful attempts at BG Trilogy and Morrowind, I haven't played any games in over a year... But I normally prefer RPG's and strategy games like Age of Empires.

In my case it's better to mention which categories i DON'T like, which is racing and beat em up type of games. You gave Vice City as an example for racing games, but it doesn't really belong to that category, since racing is only a part of the game. The most important part is still eliminating gangsters, and that part i DO like.

So with the exception of named categories, i enjoy playing anything else. I don't really have a favorite category.

managment i will have to go for, but... it depends

as shadowhound mentioned GTA isn't a racing game, more a FPS but not that entirely, but the entire series has been excelent, and hopefully GTA Sin City coming soon

anyway...
realtime is the way to go, but as allways there are exceptions

GTA is a racing game. Just as it is an action game. It's definitively not more FPS than racer, as it's more of a 3rd person than a 1st person anything.

I prefer RPGs, and other games with RPG-ish character statistics and development, and turn based combat. I don't like adventure, sport, simulation and management games very good and I can't stand RTS. I like other types about equally good.

Well ok, TPS (third person shooter ) but in the genre "racing" when are you able to get out of your car, and buy properety, and fly helicopters and plane and sail boats etc. Racing is part of it but i would deffinatly not call it a racing game

Pure oldschool RPG addict here!

Although I still frequently go to other consoles for gaming (megadrive, snes/psone and my beloved c64) I mainly stick to RPG derived games and reflect upon my collection like a greedy miser.

As for the style combat, I don't really have a preference, as I enjoy both of them. Each have their merits over the other. Whilst real time is more action intensive and is probably what I play most regularly, turn based whilst being slower, can enliven the strategy more. I still play the old goldbox d&d adventures whenever I want a taste of turn based combat. (Currently replaying Champions of Krynn on the C64!)
