Reasons Hackers are good: They can combat other theiving hackers and crackers.

this isnt really a good thing, if there were no hackers then this wouldnt even be needed!

Hackers built the internet. Hacker is a term that has been twisted and abused by the media to mean something completely different then it had 20 years ago.

Well what would you rather call it? If you ask me hacking seems to be more a classification or category of crimes commited rather than a crime itself, for example Credit Fraud or identity theft ect.

hacking can also be beneficial in some aspects, as mentioned above it is all based on the individual's code of ethics, for example contrary to what many people believe i do have some ethics left, a fair while a go i "hacked" into the school server and that was a learning experience, i did nothing wrong nor did i want to, well i might have been tempted but i didn't. I now have other intrests and i look back on things like that as part of my education and hopefully in the future i will get a job with computers and my past will have taught me things such as possible security flaws which need to be removed. As i look back i see no real future in hacking just something to do when i was younger and bored.
Back onto the subject whether they are good or no, well they have their applications such as i mentioned finding security flaws, in fact many major corporations hire them to test their networks and help them make it more secure, but as with everything there are allways the bad few.
Also website defacement can be crippeling especially to smaller corporations (but funny when it happens to mcdonalds)

Its like if I saw your house and thought "wow that would look much better a neon pink color!" then painted it without even bothering to ask you.[/QUOTE]I'd like that better than if they walked into the house and stabbed me, just as I'd like it better if a hacker messed with my website than my credit card. No one's said that writing "STOP WAR!" on a website is just and right, just that they shouldn't be treated like someone that's stealing your ID or crahing your puter.
