Well, of course it's not an acceptable source academically...but if you need to know something, it's generally there. For instance, right now, I'm looking up information about laserdiscs...anybody remember those?

Wikipedia is great for fun things like x-men comics but be careful about using it for updated information. I found some information that is not updated or completely wrong especially those relating to where I stay.

Why is this free?

Because people donate to keep it that way. Like any free project it relies on donations so if you use it and find it valuable then you should contribute.

I find the maths and physics articles just lead you in never-ending confusing circles, because every third word they use needs another article to define it...

But it's still a great resource, even if I don't use it as an official source for work.

I love them as well. I LOVE to absorb information--of all types. In fact, my mindset lately is "if I'm doing something, I should be learning new things".

Like TV. don't watch much of it, but when I do, I love to watch something that gives me information. Documentaries, the Science Channel, Discovery channel, etc...

Donna (my wife) likes to watch EXTRA and that Hollywood crap-- I call it 'fluff'. I could care less about who is getting married in Hollywood, how does this impact me? (exactly).

Like with Neverwinter Nights, I have modded the hell out of the game, and have pushed the modding to its limits, and love learning new tweaks, and how stuff is done.. And those Wiki's are so fun to read and absorb all the information.

I mostly use it for history homework. Useful place. I hope it doesn't die any time soon.

wiki is your new god.
along with Cthulhu.
worship the many tentacled server of random (yet well organized) information as it sucks out your brains.

all must bow to wiki.
(might as well bow to Choc as well while you are doing that.)
and yes, Cthulhu will eat you last.

Very useful indeed. Thats the first place i go to when i type "define: word-i-want-to-know-more-about" in Google. And those hideous links...takes you to places wich takes you to toher places and new sub-subjects to read about. So when you research about subject A, you might end up researching about subject H.
I don't find much use for the random button though. I mostly get to pages about famous people wich I don't find interesting.
Also, heard about wikihow? http://wiki.ehow.com/Main-Page
How to... create a fictional villain? Do christmas decorations?

UNCG allows it...or at least my professors do in the Romance Languages dept.
