Of course you can't beat Montreal, but this isn't the season. You have to come in summer.
My favorite parts is traveling old Montreal on foot and watching the performers in the streets, or visiting the port. All the nice interesting places are around there. There is also the Fireworks festival every years.

Well, you can pretty much do everything!! Catch a live play, listen to a great band of any type, have a great meal, shop your brains out. And the next day, do it all again!
..and don't listen to Luvian or pritchke, they don't get out much ![]() ..now, Quebec City is a different story.. I lived in Ottawa for 23 years. It's beautiful and not too big and you'll never find a cleaner city.

Detroit's four hours away (depending on how you drive), and you've got the benefits of another major city (including Greektown).
Buffalo is a couple of hours away as well, and you've got Niagara Falls and the home of real buffalo wings. Go north, and you're into God's country. Barrie and beyond is quite beautiful and well worth spending time in the outdoors.

If you like the club scene, visit The Docks.
There used to be an excellent restaurant called The Spaghetti Factory downtown, not sure if it's still around. You can't visit during hockey season, and not go see a Leafs game. As mentioned above, the Ontario Science Centre and the ROM are good choices. There's also the IMAX theatre at the OSC or the Ontario Place Cinesphere. (Do you guys even have IMAX across the pond?) East about 30 minutes there's Oshawa, the home of the biggest canadian GM facility and the McLaughlin Museum. If you don't mind travelling 90 minutes east to Peterborough, I can lift a few with you at southern ontario's best pub, and show you the famous liftlocks.

Honestly, I don't see the point of traveling hundred of kilometers to do something you could have done at home (clubbing and shopping, for example). Surely there are other more exotic things to do when you travel...

I didn't realize you were in Peterborough, Sir K. I've got a friend over there... does a lot with youth soccer (or football, for the rest). He and I met up in Toronto last time I was there.... 'twas a good night

For all you naysayers of my birthplace, I smite thee with ten metric tonnes of canned sausages. That's right, I'll crush you all with the power of pork!
(Yes, I was born in Toronto.) Things to do? Plenty, but mostly if you have cash. If you don't, walking around Toronto does take a while, but it can be a most entertaining time, though not quite during the winter. All the places mentioned are quite interesting and entertaining to those who have a focus in shopping (go to the BCE place), sports (which Toronto has plenty of), or art (AGO, numerous other smaller venues). There are places where you can still see music live, not to mention comedy (Yuk Yuks, Second City). And yes, go to the clubs. Since you are not from this side of the pond, even the club scene you'll find variations therein. Of course, go with the girlfriend and try to stay somewhat not drunk. Cab drivers will try to take you for a ride (and not just literally) if you let them in any city, and Toronto's no different. They are usually honest though. Along the same lines, there are a LOT of internet cafés inside of Toronto now as well, especially in the downtown corridor. So you'll have plenty of places to post to your friends from. Be sure to bring cold weather clothing, as winter has returned in full force inside of Toronto. And Canadian winter loves people from abroad... for dinner.
