Probably movie themes and the likes, for a more cinematic experience I suppose.

I like Brahms; I think he was in the romantic era. Also Tchaikovsky? I have a four CD set of Brahms symphonies which I love and often have on when I'm in my office working (it counteracts my officemate's ABBA ). Chopin also - he composed a lot of lovely piano music which I used to listen to quite a bit.

I apologize for interrupting the discourse of the thread, but I'm feeling reluctant to create another topic for a question of my own.

Does anybody know of any loud, nervous and seemingly violent classical songs? I only know of Karl Orff - Carmina Burana, and I'd love to know of similar songs.

He is 6'4" and has quite an impressive collection of knives, not to mention a 3' long club from an old caveman fancy dress costume

Most of the ones I mentioned are. 'Danse Macabre' and 'Hall of the Mountain King' are in places, and Mars from the Planets definitely is. None are quite as OTT as Carmina Burana though.

LOL SD. Run where...into his room?

If some eastern euro death metal band is playing JS Bach's 'fills' for him, the real solution is some good headphones, if not for Melcheor, for his neighbor.

Btw, if you mean to just drown him out, you'll need some pretty busy classical, like Flight of the Bumblebees lol (as Azred suggested, Rimsky-Korsakov). Full spectrum blasts at 16th notes are a lot harder to drown out than ABBA

Though unfortunately this doesn't exactly fit your time description, I adore most of Joe Hisaishi's music, which usually fits into the classical theme (when he isn't doing movie soundtracks). He's going to be a little harder to pin down in europe/the americas, as he's a native japanese artist. Don't think, however, that he's limited to japanese-sounding themes.

Oddly enough, I've also always been fond of Bartok, though he may not be what you're looking for.
