I'd say that it's because of medical science. Nowdays, if you have allergy, you very rarely die from it. Also, there's all kinds of weird chemicals everywhere.

But, it stands to reason that we, and our society, must be doing something to increase the allergies among children. It HAS to be an environmental factor, because I'm pretty darned sure random gene mutation isn't causing the increase in allergies.
Yup, young people learn their resistances. When they're too old and they've not had contact with certain stuffs, that's what they'll grow allergic too. So basically my idea about all this is that we're giving children too many medicins.

It's not just allergy medicine, it's bad health from the outset.

I read the other day that doctors are prescribing antibiotics for a lot of non-strep throat cases. Often it's a virus. 40% of the time they prescribe antibiotics, it won't cure the problem. That's sad considering how antibiotics kill all the helpful bacteria in your body, stripping your digestive system of a necessary symbiote. And, some kids get antibiotics VERY EARLY in life. (Note: if you take a round of antibiotics, in the weeks following eat lots of live-culture yogurts and keiffer to replenish your normal bacteria).

Iron Greasel referred to it as "all kinds of weird chemicals." If you guys only knew.

Nah pretty sure your born with them man, maybe your thinkin of obsessive compulsive disorder? [/QUOTE]Perhaps I should have defined my intentions in a better way. I meant to say that allergies arise because children are raised in an environment that is too germ-free. Being ill is not necessarily a bad thing! It helps to strengthen your immune-system.

Maybe you get what I'm saying now?

Maybe her boyfriend was Mr. Peanut...?

Anyway, yes allergies from what I have heard are usually genetic, but it is not because of obsessive compulsive disorder or any way related to it.

Link has clarified it, and yes you are right. Some doctors recommend that their children play in a not-so-clean environment to build up their immune systems. But then allergic reactions aren't usually related in this way. Well, if your kid is allergic to dust...

For some people exposing them to the things they are allergic to works, to some people it isn't. Depends on the severity of it as said. My friend, he is allergic to crabs... he can't eat them at all. He almost died just eating tiny chunks of meat.

As for my daughter's allergy...nobody on either side of our family's history have ever been allergic to peaunuts. Each morning, I was giving her a peaunut butter and jelly sandwich once she turned two years old...but the last two times I gave her the peanut butter...her face started showing signs of breaking out around her mouth with a rash. Taking her to be tested, they said that she had developed the allergy...and that if I would not have given her peaunut butter for another year...her body would have matured enough to not have been confused with the protein it thought was harmful.

Now that I think about it, I never gave MaryBeth peaunut butter until she was older because we were afraid of her chokin on it...as most new parents might be able to relate to.

Well I'm a living proof that people can get better. When I was younger I had both asthma and allergy to cats. Both were pretty severe. I had to go to the hospital often for my asthma, at one point I was the third worst case present at the hospital, the first one died.

Then eventually I lost my asthma, I've been healed for more than 15 years. Same thing for my allergy to cats. At first just being in a room with one would make me get pretty ill. Then after exposure it went down to only a minor inconvenience, and now I have a cat and I'm fine.

Often times, allergies will come or go during puberty. Weird, eh?

I'm glad that I don't have any food allergies, but it would seem that I am almost allergic to everything else. Basically I am allergic to all forms of plant life and animals with hair. I once had to be hospitalized after because I had been lifting bails of hay without a long sleeve shirt and it scratched my arms. On the bright side, my allergy medications help quite a bit, because I can stand dogs (which we have 3 of).

Probably because it's another phase when your body undergoes massive changes.
