In short: Stick to the PC gamees - Dark Alliance whilst having the Baldur's Gate title to its name, is more of a multiplayer hack and slash game without any real redemptive roleplaying features.

But as for the great PC games - I played them in order, which as a general rule, creates more enjoyment I believe in connected cRPG epics like Baldur's Gate. I've finished the first one three times and the sequel only the twice.
BG2 is much more cinematic and operates on higher levels of interaction and power levels. It also features a greater variety of character classes but lacks the beautiful wide open feel and sheer number of NPCs contained in the original. I'm actually replaying BG1 at the moment with the mod "Darkside of the Swordcoast" installed. Up to chapter 5 (where the mod truly begins) and its been great experimental fun!

Both however, are brilliant games and I hope you'll join in discussing your adventures on the forums here on Ironworks. Enjoy!

Cheers,
CerebroDragon

Baldurs Gate 2 suits me. I've never played BG1, so I can't really have a fair opinion on the two of them, but I found that even though I'd never played, heard of or had any idea what Baldurs Gate was I caught on to the whole storyline fairly easily from the first chapter of BG2.

Having played and beaten both games, I suggest BG1 and Tales of the Sword Coast first, then import that character into BG2 with Throne of Bhaal.

Don't read about BG2, don't look up stuff about it until you're far into BG1... it'll spoil your BG1 game.

I second that. But i'd like to retain the tactical knowledge of several years of BGing. A truly wonderful RPG experience.

I find less replayability than most of you guys. I haven't played a BG game in over 2 years. But, I still recognize these games as the best of the best of the best.

Baldur´s Gate 2 is specially adapted for the possibility of new players that haven´t played BG1 before. So you don´t have to worry about that.

True, Drakilor, but I still think it's much more enjoyable if you've played BG1 first.

I love Baldurs Gate 1, but I worship BG2...I just think the depth of characters, npcs, enemies and everyone else, is just phenomenal. Truly, this game is a work of art!

Postscriptum; Jon Irenicus is still the coolest villain in anygame I've ever played. Sarevok was great, but lacked the depth of Irenicus

Enjoy

I liked "that guy I will not name to avoid spoilers" from Planescape: Torment. He has some serious motivation for doing what he does. Sephiroth gets a honorary mention for best hair.

And Draco_Phoenix, you should play BG 1 first. If you play BG 2 first, BG 1 will look really ugly.
