To LotR haters, sorry it had words with more than two or three syllables. I know, it makes it hard to figure em out with hooked on phonics.
Birthdays are way overrated, so if any body wants it, they can have mine.

Rio Ferdinand, he is not the BEST defender in the world. He doesn't worth 120000 a week.

Earthsea, the movieguide said that it is as good as LOTR or Harry Potter. I waited until 1am just to watch it. Hell it suck ass!

Lord of the Rings might have been a good childrens story if it was edited down to a few dozen pages. The problem with it being so long is that it gives people who've never read a real book the impression that it qualifies as literature.

Haven't posted for a while. I was worried I was spending to much time in front of a computer screen.

On the subject of which... Fresh air and sunlight are overrated - They cause hayfever and premature aging.

Brad Pitt. Attractive, yes. Sexiest man in the world 10 years running or whatever it was, no.

Um... Parkinson. Sarah Jessica Parker's fashion sense. The Da Vinci Code!

While we're on the subject, what's the biggie about Jennifer Garner? My favourite bit of the movie Daredevil was when she died (after watching her cheat death in so many ridiculous ways in Alias). You can imagine the sense of injustice when that spinoff Electra was made!!

The LOTR movies are definitely overrated. For every breath-takingly stunning set piece that will still be unparalelled 10 years from now, there are five scenes featuring awkward melodrama and turgid shakespearian dialog that none of the actors save Ian McKellen and a few others know how to deliver properly.

Seeing them once or twice is bearable since the aforementioned set pieces with stunning visuals overshadow all the rest, but when they eventually lose their impact, LOTR becomes painfully dreary.

The LOTR books might be a bit overrated too. It can't be denied that it is the original fantasy work that created a genre, but there have been better books in the genre since, such as the Song of Ice and Fire series.

Would it be a faux pas to take issue with this? Good, I'll do it anyway

Brahms is loved only by the masses and by musicians. The cultured elite can't stand the man, for no other reason than every one else seems to love him.

His chamber music is wonderful to play. As a clarinettist myself, I love playing his Quintet for Clarinet and Strings, Op. 115 (B minor) -- the best clarinet quintet ever written, IMHO -- and his Sonatas for Clarinet & Piano, Op. 120. The latter are showcase pieces for the instrument, along with being tender & charming in their own right.

My last girlfriend, a violist, was equally a Brahms fan. She could recite opus numbers by heart, too

Guys, this isn't a thread for arguments, is it? We're bound to disagree on something. I don't believe that everyone who's read this thread hates Adam Sandler, but they have the decency to accept my hatred and get on with their lives. Now, while calling LoTR overrated on this kind of board makes you a target, we can still be civil about it. I don't want this to degenerate into an argument thread when there's plenty of negativity to go around.

Chastisement accepted, Illumina; sorry everyone.

Sandler & Tolkien, like any popular figures, will have their defenders and attackers in equal numbers, but I couldn't see Brahms maligned here. On a music forum, sure, but there 20 other people would march to his defense ...

On happy note, the site Illumina linked to by Mike Reed is hilarious and hits close to home. I fall in between Blowhard and Jerk usually, but Meg happened to incite a Fanboy moment.

She might as well have spoken evil about open source!

Hmm... I guess I'd have to say that the opinions of people who don't like Tolkien are overrated.

My list of things that are BADLY overrated (far worse than things that are merely 'Overrated')...

Modern Art in general (with many exceptions),
Quintain Terentino (sp?),
Games made for consoles,
Bose speakers,
Open Source (hehe... just kidding),
Sanity (see 'The Tick').
