hmmm, your focus on defeating heavly armour foes limits your effectiveness Vs swarms.

Every army can swarm, even Necrons, so you might need to use your vehicals to tank rush anyone getting too close.

Plasma cannons, misslelaunchers with frag (blast) missles and heavy bolters are very effective against swarms, also of course the assault cannons on the terminators and the dreadnaught, I'm acctually more worried about heavily armoured foes...
Anyway I'll let you know how it goes...

The Eldar are fast but pretty weak... havn't played them and only once against them, they have to make sure they wipe out the units they charge because if the enemy strikes them back they are in trouble...
but the models are some of my favourite, specially the Howling banshees...

Jorath, have your commander ditch that combi weapon and take a bolt pistol -- garners you a +1 in Hand to Hand. (If you're dying for a plasma gun, give another one to your command squad troopers.) Also, you should consider an iron halo instead of the artificer armor. Artificer armor won't help when a star cannon comes gunning for you.

Here's my 1850 pt. Ultra-Smurf army I will be playing in a tourney this weekend:

2- wound Chaplain with Term Honors
5-man Command Squad, w/ Apothecary, Company Champion, Standard Bearer, and Vet Sarge (Power Fist)
- Mounted in Razorback w/ Lascannons

Troops:
6-man Tact Squad with Heavy Bolter and Plasma Gun, mounted in Razorback w/ Las

5-man Grey Knights in Power Armor squad, with incinerator and psycannon (may flip over to Elites at no cost, will allow them to deep strike)

6 Scouts w/ H. Bolter, 2 snipers

Elites:
Dreadnaught w/ Assault cannon and CCW

5 Termies w/ 2 Assault cannons

Fast Attack:
Bike Squad -- 4 bikes (w/ melta and plasma) and Attack bike w/ multimelta

Land Speeder Tornado w/ Multimelta and Heavy Flamer

7-man Assault Squad w/ Vet Sarge (P. Fist) and 2 plasma pistols.

Heavy:
5-man Devastator Squad with 2 Plasma Cannons

50 models, 1850 pts. -- COME GET SOME!!

___________________________________________

And Here's my standard Eldar Army, About 1850 points:

Seer Council -- 5 man squad (245 pts w/ powers + wargear)

Troops:

10 Black Guardians w/ Bright Lance led by Warlock w/ conceal.

10 Bl Guard w/ Starcannon led by Warlock w/ conceal.

6 Guardian Storm Squad with 2 flamers (will travel in the Falcon, below)

6 Ranger snipers

Elites:
- 6 warp spiders
- 7 Banshees, w/ Exarch w/ Executioner
- 7 Dire Avengers w/ Exarch

Heavy:
- Wraithlord w/ Bright Lance
- Falcon w/ holo field, spirit stones and scatter laser
- 4 Dark Reapers

Fast:
- 1 Viper w/ shuriken cannon

This Eldar army is well-vetted and wins a good percentage of the time.

For swarms, flamers flamers flamers. Nothing like seeing 25 gaunts go down to combined 3 flamer templates (2 from storm guardians and 1 from Wraithlord). Flamers saved my bacon twice now vs. the Nids. I put the flamers in my falcon. Move 12", disembark 2" and flame away.

For armored units, plasma and melta, krak missiles (I have a Dev squad with 4 ML's) and assault cannons (rending on a 6). Generally, if you want an armor-munching army, look to Eldar or Dark Eldar. They've got the most AP1, AP2 and AP3 stuff. Starcannons munch through marines like butter. For a marine army, though, I find the greatest success in just relying on my massed bolter-style fire. If you make the enemy take enough armor saves, they will fail.

Generally, the weakness is true, but not always. My seer council can stand in the open in the middle of the board and LIVE. With Fortune I am making 4+ Invul saves, re-roll misses, for everyone in the squad. now, a psycannon -- that'll make 'em run like wimmen. Usually, though, I'll use my wraithlord or my seer council to tie up the squad I want to kill until the banshees can get there and hit with, oh, say 18-21 attacks, going first with power weapons (admittedly, S3 power weapons).

my base Tau list for runs at 88 models, and it's not realy a swarm army.

Basic squads
12 Fire Warroirs X4
20 Kroot X2

that's my basic 88, at just under 800 points.

For my HQ I'd take a shas'el and two bodyguards, shield generators plasma rifles and missle pods on all, then round out the list with three units of one broadside each as my heavy support, shield generator on each.

that gives me a list without elites, but I could drop one broadside for three stealthsuits, though they can be tricky to use effectivly.

Ugh, I misunderstood what was meant about swarms... rippers and such... I think the tournament uses a special house rule for them, if I remember correctly it made swarms much harder to kill, even if you had flamers, I have to look it up.

I was talking about armys that use massed grunts to beat you down with numbers, aka swarms.

Your force, though pretty good would have trouble dealing with high numbers, you get a fair number of shots, but any force that outnumbers you is going to get into close combat, or close enough to decimate your lines.

I don't like this choice, because it can only fire well if it sits still. I think using HB's on the sponsons is best, so you can always move 6" and fire all weapons. Note that by moving 6" you also require h-t-h troops to roll a "4" to hit you -- if you sit still, you are automatically hit.
