I feel this is more of a public question than a public to be honest, as there are more members than just me who want to know what's going on. How about we just leave it till a mod, or Xen, has there say. I don't feel this is breaking any laws personally.

Personal stuff should be kept to PM for sure. But if a poster has (unforced) brought up a topic and discusses it on a public forum then why not ask for clarification of a contradiction in public? If he no longer wants to talk about the issue then just a simple post by him saying that there is some personal things he would rather not talk about then fine, lets all respect that and not discuss it further.

However lets not forget that it was Xen who freely made these posts IN PUBLIC (many of which I see are now deleted) nobody forced him to make such posts

This forum thrives on its many thousands of members sharing experiences both wild and unusual, how poorer it would be if we had to cast questions over everyone’s posts?

This is how I feel about this issue.

1. A member should not have the right to delete threads that other members have posted on. A few years ago this was being abused by a few people and so Ziroc actually removed all members' ability to even edit a post after it had been posted for the amount of a couple minutes. Now we are getting reports that members are deleting threads because they want to hide something or are angry with what direction the thread went in. Further abuse of this sort might result in the reinstatement of a forum-wide removal of all members' rights to even edit a post after it has been posted for a limited time. Do any of us want to be the reason that occurs? I don't. If anyone has an issue regarding someone breaking the code of forum ethics, then PM a moderator and explain what has happened. Let us deal with the issues.

2. Several members on IW are not adults, and have many issues in thier lives that they are trying to work through. Posting on a forum of this sort is a good way for a teenager to seek peer advice. The advice given is not professional nor should a gaming forum be the only resource of advice.

If a person were to lie about their personal life, what harm has it really caused us? Whatever the reason may be for why a person posts what he/she does, we have control over how it affects our time spent on IW forums.


In this thread, I personally see that several members are trying to get an answer out of another member who may or may not have a good reason for posting what he did.

Making a personal statement about it will be reserved to Xen's decision.

If he wants to talk to anyone about it, he may do so, but if he chooses not to answer, then he does not have to, for he does not have to answer for anything he has done unless he broke a rule in the TOS, for which case a moderator will confront him on it. Making contradicting posts is currently not an issue with the TOS.

However, Xen needs to realize that causing confrontations of this sort with his fellow IW'ers will eventually lead to a cold reception by his peers if it continues.

As a moderator, I cannot force anyone to like anyone else, but I can enforce the rule that we must all respect one another...and that means their privacy as well.

If Xen wants to answer this question, he may do so here if he likes, and I will leave this thread open so that he can have a chance to publically redeem his trust with all of you. If he does not want to, then he reserves that right. If he asks a moderator to close this thread, then we will do so.

I don't know how much more fair to everyone I could be than that. In the future, let's not put somebody on the spot to come forth with private matters.

I have no idea what this is about, but Larry said what needed to be said. Xen doesn't have to answer to anything if he doesn't want to. I'll just add that my personal view is that people's personal intrigues and issues should not be discussed in the public areas of the forum, but rather in PM or email. If it involves a group of people, then use email and copy each other. This kind of thread, while it may be well-intentioned, is pretty tactless in my opinion. Are we trying to run Xen off? Embarrass him? Wring the cold hard truth out of him? I'm confused. Has Xen broken the rules in some way? If so why has this not been reported to us?

Or is this thread just for people "in the know"?

We'll keep it open for the reasons Larry stated above, and to see if you lot can resolve your differences in a mature fashion. But fellow mods, please keep an eye on this thread to make sure it doesn't become a flamefest OR an inquisition - if it does, we need to make sure we hold people accountable for that happening, including those who a ) started it; and b ) participated in it.

Thes types of issues as I said before should be left to PM and should not be dragged out in public.
