One more thing. If I pay Cowled Wizards for a license, will I be able to summon their enforcers later in order to repeat the Deja Vu joke?

Wand of Cloudkill is ultimate weapon of solo mages (at least, at the beginning). 2-3 charges get rid of cowled wizard enforcers. It costs about 12000gp (50 charges). After killing them and Seven vales party, you'll be having enough gold for RoV.
After casting cloudkill, invisibility is handy, or victims will follow you out of the cloud.

Cast Stoneskins on your mage, and memorize charm and domination spells, and summon.
Once your summons and skins are in place, attempt to dominate/charm Mencar and Smelly ( I forget how to spell his real name). This won't turn everyone else hostile... Excellent.
Position whoever you managed to charm in front of the remaining foes along with your summoned creatures, and stand in the middle of the room. The noncharmed people should still be neutral at this point. Cast Miscast Magic on the mage, which will turn the neutrals hostile.. but if the mage fails his save he will be more or less harmless. Your creatures and "allies" will protect you from any harm and you can cast Magic Missiles and Flame Arrows on whoever is hostile. After all of this, you should begin turning your "allies" against each other, one by one. When you have only one "ally" left, go downstairs and rest before returning with fresh Stoneskins and such in place.

Thanks everybody, I have done the stupid ruffians by summoning 2 lesser earth elementals and later luring the last one (the thief) to the street where guards made a short work of him

Also cloudkills helped to kill the mage, his familiar and one warrior.

this is exerllent advice, one that I would use, and that I also expect coming from Dundee,

except I will kill the mage first, then the imp with a vamperic touch. as far as I advise, kill these two spell casters first. they are the most nasty

so, summon, charm, charm. if all goes well, save the game, then stand behind the imp, and have one minion protect your flank from the dwarf. kill the mage with the rest, and cast vamperic touch to kill the imp. the rest should be easy. and remember to memorize TWO confuse spell. because you dont want the dwarf running around drinking potions. this is a hard fight because the dwarf has a lot pots.

The major trouble I got was from the backstabbing thief, not dwarf. Dwarf simply coundnt harm my lesser earth elemental, but the thief killed the summon quite fast, and I had to lure him to the guards. Also I petrificated the other warrior (the one going berserk, probably a barb) with a chromatic orb thus losing his eq

Just for fun then i shadowed a staff of magi and played hide&seek with those @#$%! You cast a spell, then press F2 so that your mage again goes invis, and all they can is to wander about guessing the source of all those magic missiles etc But I think that such a tactics is rather unfair...

confuse the thief then. when u cast any area effect spell, you want to maximize your number of targets. so timing and anticipation.

also, if u want to be cheap, have a thief backstab, then pause immediately, and hide in shadow again, move a lil, then back stab again. rinse and repeat. you have to do it right. there are too many ways of being cheap

I am very leery of using mental spells, and more or less dislike them and their usage.

Chalk it up to bad experiences with using them in my first game.

Besides, you cannot expect me to list down every single tactic. I will go mad. My preferred tactic is still to incapacitate the entire group with Web(s) and release spiders on them. The spiders' poison is very deadly and effective in handling them. Magic Missiles and Flame Arrows handle the rest.

I do not mind. Give me some time to settle down first, I need to check on some webcomics first.
