The mace is upgraded by finding a type of ore and giving it together with the mace (and some $$) to Cormwell to upgrade.
AFAIK Prot from Magic prevents spells from affecting the target AND prevents the target from casting spells. I've hardly ever used it though so I'm not sure.

Mace of disruption can be found in vampire guild first time through it, and illithium can be gainded from Neb-you have to access the Sir Sarles quest from the temple of helm in the temple district. Take the mace, the money, and the illithium to cromwell in the docks and you'll get improved mace.

The Ring of the Ram also helps against Kangaxx, it was in fact the ring in question that dealed the killing blow to him when i was fighting him although I'm not sure how much damage it deals as I haven't used it in a while.

You can cast out of a Prot from Magic sphere. Casting the scroll on Kangaxx just makes *him* immune to magic.

Scarily enough somebody a while back did do just that (in error) and wondered my he was dying.

And from the original post that I missed earlier : There are no other prot from magic scrolls besides the two from the adv mart.

Incorrect. The scroll of Protection from Magic also prevents the user from casting out of it. Some people have reported bugs with using it on Kangaxx the Demi-Lich though, and I think I have a theory as to why, but it will require some testing. Using it on yourself is no problem though, and it will protect you from spells( you just cannot cast out as well).

Ijust used prot from magic scrolls on my myself & Minsc, summoned a hakeshar, surrounded Kangaxx with myself, Minsc, Anomen & hakeshar. Being hasted helps, too. Just wail on the ol' liche so he doesn't get to cast a lot of spell. Use whatever mage you have to counteract as many spells as can. The only casualty I took was Anomen & he was imprisoned. Just went & bought freedom scroll from Ribald & rescued him (should have left him there, then he'd have nobody to whine to but himself -- for all eternity. Heh.)
