Thanks for all the opinions, guys. I will definately give the free trial a go and see what its like...but as for paying to play per month...I am in my final semester of school before I get a job and we can sell this house and get away from these neighbors who have been getting worse these days. I do not have the time to devote to a game where I would get my $15.00 worth every month, because my time online is so limited and short. Once I am free from the troubles of this semester...I will consider this game again as a potential investment worth the money to play. I hope some of you are still around in a few months to team up with!

Same situation as me, I've saved money by paying this "outrageous fee".

As for whether or not WoW is a good game...

Personally, I almost quit earlier this summer due to raiding burnout. After thinking about why I was quitting and why the game had lost it's flavor, I realised that I had taken it entirely too seriously. I was treating it like a job.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO RAID.

I quit my guild in the same manner that a employee who just won the lottery would curse out his boss. I've since discovered great ways to enjoy hours of WoW with very little/no grind time. It's all about what you like to do: I have a 60 priest who's now a shadow specc. When I'm on, I'll chat with friends, pvp (not trying to get gear, but trying to have fun. Gear is a plus), or run instances (again, for fun. If an item I want drops, yay4me). Farming for cash isn't neccessary, because it's easy enough to play the auction house for money. Once I did this, I accumulated 200g relatively easily, then rolled a level 19 twink paladin.

The point is, I now have a high and low character to play on at my leisure. I have no obligations, I can do what I want, and almost every aspect of the game is open to me when I feel like it. Sure, I'm not as rich or well-geared as hardcore raiders, but I'm moderately geared and skilled enough to take them on in a pvp setting. If you enjoy the aspects of the game and don't allow it to become a job, it can be extremely enjoyable. I'm about to start my second year of playing it, and I have no intention of quitting.
Very well put. After 2 years of play I do the same. The endgame doesn't interest me as much as it used to. There is no priority for me anymore, I just play to have fun. I usualy roll alts and mess around in BG's myself.

I have taken breaks from WoW and needed those breaks but I always come back. The reason I defend the game is because it just has so much to offer on so many different levels. 2 + years and I am still having fun.

The whole game is repetitive, not just the endgame.

LOL, really?
Yeah, and it actually is becoming a problem. I'm not going to start rambling and whining and force-feeding everyone my family problems, but lets just say when bills start to get paid late (late as in weeks overdue) you realize something is starting to go wrong.

Funny, so many of us spent tons of hours playing BG1 and 2, and at the end we happily rerolled and did it all again. Even though there are only so many ways to kill Tiax, and there are only so many times you can take Saemon Havarian without going bonkers. No one got to the end of all the "grinding" xp goblins in "That map east of..." and said "I have nothing to show for it."

Learn to balance, people. I play WoW a TON -- but I always played video games a ton, and now it's just that there's one game I like to play.

And the whole "raiding is boring" group never raided much. It's incredibly hard and fun to learn many of these fights, and yes you do them a dozen or so times each, and then move on. This is not "grinding." This is "learning a new part of the game" "killing a new boss" and, most of all "fun." And if it's not, don't do it. But 99% the people who say raiding is no fun never succeeded at downing the first boss in BWL and got burnt out on the fact that Molten Core is a remedial course in "tank and spank" raiding that everyone must learn before moving onto more complicated stuff.

WoW is more acutely a very fun alternative cartoon life than anything I've seen. Will the game get boring in 3 or 6 months? Maybe. It hasn't for me in a year, but your mileage may vary. Most games bore me inside of 2 months or so, that's never stopped me from playing them before.

Enjoy the game, Larry. I'm on Dalaran server, and if you play there give me a whisper and say hi. Character's name is Ingafel.

I agree (as usual *grin*) TL. MC is pretty boring after you do it the 20th time, but my group is taking more of a focus on AQ20, and the fights are much more interesting. Ayamiss the Hunter, where a ranged attacker with high DPS (ie. ME ) had to tank it by nuking the crap outa her while she flies.

BWL too, the first fight destroying eggs/keeping the hoards of enemies at bay = FUN.

..Unfortunatly, our first BWL attempt went tits up 'cause I didn't know I had to dismiss my pet (I was supposed to be orb controller...oops) but fun none the less.

I think if you're starting to find raiding boring, you have to aim for new heights. The problem is, you can't get to those new heights without getting the gear for it.
