My tailor is doing fine making 10-slot bags, and had just as much luck with the 8-slot bags. I also took skinning for sheer profit (and the 10 slot requires heavy leather)
So far skinning has made me more money than tailoring, but there's no way I'll be able to get my mount at 40. One good thing about having both is that most monsters will yield either leather or a silk/wool (etc). The undead of Duskwood set me back quite a bit though, as they're basically good-for-nothings lol. Grinding is profitable...but it makes me quit playing for several days whenever I do it too much hehe. If you do get frusterated and take a gathering skill, I have two things you should consider. You WILL have to take on 0-xp mobs if you take skinning. You might have better luck finding herbs, BUT, are these even worth anything to anyone? I didn't get my alchemist/herbalist up very high (13), but I never got anyone to pay me anything for a potion, so I sure wasn't going to pay any amount of money to raise a profit-less skill. Nor did I need to, as I had more potions than I could even give away. It's the curse of playing at night I guess lol. |

Why take 0 xp mob for skinning?
When I grind skin I hunt equal level monsters, or green at worst... I still think skinning alone suck as a money maker, there's no way someone is going to buy all your skins. After one session I usually end up with about 120 or so skin, I'll be lucky if I sell 2-3 stack. It's way easier to craft stuff and vendor it. [ 04-05-2005, 03:16 PM: Message edited by: Luvian ]

On the 0xp mobs, I meant if someone started skinning very late, like if they dropped tailoring for skinning, they wouldn't have much of a choice because they wouldn't be able to skin things of their level.
I had great luck last night selling my skins, I actually saw 6 stacks of medium leather sell in 6 seconds to the same guy (I assume) lol. Playing alliance on a heavily populated server seems to give you no trouble selling most things, in my experience. |

I don't know, a stack of Thick leather on my server sell for about 80 silver.
If I want to sell it, I have to undercut other people, so I need to sell it at about 70-75. Ass in the 18 silver from the deposit, and the 10% the AH take, and I make about 50 silver. I get more than take from my skins by vendoring leather armors. Rugged leathed goes for 1 gold, so it's the same thing. |

What I hate is the cooldown on things. 4 days to make 1 mooncloth really is a bit ridiculous. 8 days to make a 16 slot bag is....absurd. And for mooncloth robe it would take 16. I have magisters robes so dont need that but its not like those drop a lot. So i'd like to equip friends with nice stuff, even if it cost me a bundle but thats a bit much of a cooldown to do. So i make 14 slot bags...uhhh woot thats what good tailoring is. Hopefully they add some stuff soon

![]() I guess I could vendor the bags I make, but it is actually more profitable just selling the cloth and wool in the AH. However, that does not up my skill any, so I am forced to take a money hit just to up my skill (wouldn't mind if I had a gathering skill to complement, but I don't). Enchanting so far has been a pain. I've been trying to find good recipes around, but can't even find minor beastslaying in drops or AH. Let's face it, in any of the "crafting" professions (I'll put enchanting here, since you are technically outputting a usable product in the form of enchantments), it is not the stuff you train that sells well for you. Anyone with that much skill can make it, and end up flooding the market. It's the rarer dropped recipes that make you cash with your skill. Not finding many recipes = not too much profit. Thothbot lies like a rug. I've killed every savannah prowler in the barrens (per thothbot, a 12.5% chance of dropping minor beastslaying) for over 4 hours of grinding, and not a single recipe of any kind. Oh well, that's life. I've been thinking about it, and it might be worth my while to try to ply my trade in Thunder Bluff. None of the tauren PCs have a class that uses cloth (so tailoring will be very rare) and very rare to find enchanters as well. Might have better luck there (Orgrimmar and Durotar in general are overpopulated with vendors, and the undead players lean heavily towards casting classes). Just have to grind Fenris all day before I go.

![]() As an update, I sold all of my leather last night, netting me 5 or so gold. I don't really doubt Luvian's assertion that he can make more selling his leather goods, but I stand by the claim that leatherworking done only for profit is, well, profitable (that character's other profession is tailoring, which is good because that profession is at a net loss I'm pretty sure, even after selling dozens of bags) |

Then why don't you vendor your tailoring stuff?
I'm pretty sure you could find an object that give you good cash once vendored. Not bags of course, a robe or shirt maybe. My alt is a level 20 mage, with a maxed 250 tailoring skill. She managed to get a couple of gold vendoring her stuff while doing skillups to get there. I'm sure if I had just used the recipe that's worth the most I would have made even more. Things are looking up! Not that they were bad, I'm doing about as well/poorly as most of my peers that I talk to hehe. Lots of people have to do a bit of scrounging to get their mount.
Found my first Fel Cloth, and my first thick leather. 3 more levels and 60 more gp and I'll have my horse. You have a point Luvian, I haven't tried to find any recipes that are worth money - just assumed that the bags were by far the most valuable. I can usually sell for 50 sp the 10 slot ones, but maybe there's a better rate for 3s of thread, 12 silk (I think), and 2 heavy leather. It was just so much more than anything else was worth prior to that, I hadn't really looked. Btw, a friend and I are going pearl diving off the cost of Stranglethorn Vale later today LOL. Should be fun at least. |

Honestly, you get more for materials than you do finished items most times (i.e. anyone can buy the materials and make whatever they want). However, I've managed to rack up some gold, but that was by grinding certain areas and doing Shadowfang three times in one day (3 different groups needed help at different times). I finally found minor beastslaying on one of the SFK runs (that enchant sells well because it makes your weapon glow), and I got the patterns for Phoenix Pants and Phoenix Gloves. Hopefully I can start cashing in a bit now (but I'm still going to grind some next weekend anyway).
Is the coast of Stranglethorn Vale the best place to get Iridescent Pearls? I'm reaching a point where I'm going to be in desperate need of them (my 3 best tailoring recipes use them, and the next rod I have to make for enchanting uses one). Lordamere Lake only nets small pearls.
