Yes, because the general population is full of asses. Honestly, WoW has more beggars, duelists and generally immature people then I've ever seen in an MMORPG, and I blame this on:
A) General Societal Decadence (more on this some other time)
B) "Woot its Warcraft, I want to be a night elf" preteens/teens.
C) Insecure jackasses who want to duel their character to all comers.
Not everyone in WoW is an ass, but honestly, with a population like that, its no surprise that people keep their friendships within their guild.

Hi,
Could it be that to play the horde you have to take yourself less seriously?
As a starting player i chose a NE Hunter, because i tend to enjoy "ranger" types and this seemed like a natural choice.
But i would not be surprise that the amount of people that project their egos on their character looks would be significant enough to make a bias in the Alliance/horde population in that regard.

Well... it's true that Alliance characters are more physically appealing, especially the female ones.

But horde characters are nice too...

Orcs are big and muscular. Ironically they also seem less corrupted than humans.
Taurens have something noble to them. It's hard to explain, but playing one is really a good experience.
Who wouldn't like to play an undead?
Trolls are funny. I really liked playing one.

I often get the impression that the Horde are "the good guys". Orcs are trying to survive in an hostile world while trying to shake the demonic influence they have been under for so long. Taurens have always been noble and peacefull. The trolls are trying to survive and are also trying to follow in the orc's footstep. The forsaken are rebel against Arthas's army of undead.

The alliance? Human are scheming against each others and continuing their crusade of hatred against the orcs. Dwarves are seeking lore, night Elves are pursuing imortality, and gnomes are blowing things up and doing comic relief.

I don't know, Hordes characters seem way more fun to me, but then again I never thought of my character as me, as opposed to some of my pen and paper friends I used to play with.

I have to agree with Luvian that the Horde, once you are running around seem like the good guys compared to the alliance. They are definitely more "tribal" and "savage", but I see the difference as more a Advanced Civilization v.s. Barbarian theme. Tauren live in tribal conditions close to nature, orcs build crude cities and forts and have a strong honor system (thus fitting the "barbarian" stereotype perfectly), and trolls were jungle savages until they lost their lands and were forced to live with the orcs. The only exception is the undead; some of their goals would be considered evil (i.e. making a plague), but they are doing it because they are beset by enemies on 2 sides (the Scourge on one side and the humans who want their land back on the other). I always get the impression Kevin Costner did in Dances With Wolves; I started out with a "human" viewpoint, and played Horde just to play something different, and now that I've played that side I really do view them as more of the good guys, while the humans (especially) end up coming off looking like the bad guys. Just my 2 cents.

Undead are totally different from the horde. They don't fit that horde type. Blizz made some dumb reason for them to align just for WoW's sake.

But yes, I believe the horde (in roleplaying terms) is much more good aligned than the alliance. The main misconception is that the horde is pure evil just because of the Warcraft RTS series, which was literally good vs evil.
But WCIII came along and showed us that the orcs were always good, they were just corrupted. So when the horde reverts back to their old ways, they are much more likeable.

My take on the alliance is that they are a mess right now due to the events of WCIII (the scourge literally destroying human culture). Personally, they are struggling to regain control their kingdom right now, and they are facing multiple problems from undead and horde, defias, internal corruption. That is just the humans. The dwarves and gnomes face the troggs and and a threat from Dark Iron dwarves. Night elves have lost nearly everything, along with Furion and a new archdruid who seems corrupt.

So in the roleplaying sense, the Alliance is still in its shattered and fragile state, while the horde (while still facing many problems) is thriving. So it is almost like a turn of the tables now isn't it?

As for the alliance players and horde players. I think the game environment of horde hospitality has passed on to the players themselves. I do feel a sense of patriotism, if you will, on the horde. The alliance, being somewhat in shambles, doesn't appear to have that. Mainly because of the mood blizzard created when developing WoW.

Yes, forsaken want to create a new plague, but look at them, they still have free will.

If they succeded and made everyone else into a forsaken, wouldn't it create racial harmony?

Is that such an evil cause?

Well yeah, the Undead really don't seem to fit as good. But like I said, Blizzard just needed to make sides even and aligned orcs and undead.

One way or another, I just think the rebel undead should have been left alone for WoW.

I'm glad I started such an interesting dialog...yay me!

but seriously, I have had the thought that the horde did seem more "good" than the alliance. I'd play the horde more often if I wasn't already so attached to my night elf druid. I'll just have to be more anti-social and do all my gaming in the wee morning hours.
