To get a romance going you first of all have to be of the correct race for example Jaheria won't romance a dwarf, Vicionia a elf etc. Then when they talk to you simply be "nice". Listen to them and be polite and a romance should eventually start up. Some races can't romance anyone though so if for example your a dwarf or half-orc you can't have a romance.

i just got to chapter 5, i'm a human assassin... why is there no sign of romance!?!?!? maybe the chicks in my group need a good slappin'! lol.

It's a weird one. Who are the girls in your party? I forgot to mention that only Jaheria,Vicionia and Aerie can have a romance and only Anomen for the ladies. Maybe you were rude to them and ended the romance or your a race that can't have a romance it's one of the three.

i got jaheira and aerie, and imoen, but she's my sister, and that might get a little freaky... i'm human, so it should be alright. and i always say the nicest things to the women. in fact the only person i'm mean to is anomen, cause i don't like him. maybe i'll kick him out and get viconia, is she any good? but one problem is that i'm already in chapter 5, so she might be too crappy for where i'm at...

Viciona is the best cleric in the game but it's maybe a bit late to take her now. Anomen is a prat but he can be a good cleric if he passes his knighthood test. You could always take Viciona with you in your next game anyway. You should be able to have a romance if your human with either Aerie or Jaheria. I don't know why it hasn't worked for you.

You'll know if it's a romance dialogue because of the sappy music. I know that Aerie and Viconia start shortly after they join, but Jahiera's is nice and certain: She starts after you leave Gaelan Bayle's house.

Maybe you've been having romance dialogues without realising it. Have Jaheira Aerie or Viconia spoken to you at all? Or maybe they have and you were rude or told them you didn't care.
You have to be patient, caring and polite, what do you expect, poor scarred Aerie to do, suddenly remove all her clothes, and say " Take me you hunky Assain"
