Both of them are brands of flour, not types of flower. So poor old Wally (it is Wally in this joke, isn't it?), when asked what his wife's favorite flower is, comes back with a cooking item, as if he can't imagine her ever wanting flowers.
Often a fatal mistake, but one that is sometimes correctible with vast amounts of servitude, honor, and just plain begging. And I do respect the questions that some folks have on this. Humor is one of the hardest things to translate into another language. If you're a native English (or American) speaker, however, you may have to pull the age card [img]smile.gif[/img]

It's not language that's providing the barrier, it's knowledge/lore. I knew it was a pun because I know both flour and flower and also knew which one should be used in the context. I just have no idea what Robin Hood or Billsbury is!! And thus the punchline also eluded me...

That's part of what makes humor so hard to translate. It's more than words, it's the background behind them. I don't know Robin Hood as a brand, but I am pretty sure it's not a flower...
