Fortunately, there's a nifty little spell that lets you take them right out without worrying about magic resistance: Imprisonment. Just ship 'em off to a teensy little container, brush your hands off, and you're done! This also works on Beholders and just about any other enemy one could think of. I would advise against using it against any monster or enemy that has its own name rather than a generic one (eg TorGal instead of Troll, Arkanis instead of Shadow Thief) as they may have some good items or have some sort of plot connection.
To memorise level 9 spells, a mage needs to be at level 18. The XP cap in SOA puts you at level 17. See any problems yet ??

::blink blink:: Are you sure..? ::checks reference books:: Am I losing my mind? I remember using Imprisonment on the Uns...er... a very powerful creature involving the quest in the Temple District... Perhaps if you have high intelligence you can cast the spell earlier...? How utterly vexing... At any rate, you're probably right, and now I need to go soak my head.

Not to mention that you can only find Imprisonment scrolls in ToB... so unless you have ToB installed, no character can learn the spell... and even if you have ToB installed, only the Sorcerer can get it in SoA... ...

As for the Golems... attack them one by one. Surround the a Flesh Golem first, as they are the easiest. Pause the game and order everybody to attack it. Unpause the game and see the Flesh Golem die within seconds.

This Will Not Activate The Other Golems.

Rinse and repeat with the Stone/Clay Golems. Take heed that Clay Golems requires +1 enchanted or better blunt weapons, while Stone Golems require +2 enchanted or better weapons.

Do Not Disturb The Iron/Adamantium Golem Yet.

Once you have killed off all the 'small' golems, get everybody out of the room. You are now going to try and kill the Iron/Adamantium Golem. Iron/Adamantium Golems require +3 enchanted or better weapons, and they emit a small poison cloud around themselves.

One nice tactic is to get it stuck at the doorway, then poke it to death with a two-handed weapon. Lilarcor and the Staff of Rynn are two examples that can be easily obtained in Chapter 2. Ranged weapons work well too, with Melf's Minute Meteors and the Sling of Everand as the two prime examples.

To properly poke the golem through the doorway, you have to off the Party AI since you need to move your character carefully yourself. The range of a two-handed weapon is just slightly more than the melee range of an Iron/Adamantium Golem, so when properly positioned, your character can poke to his/her heart's content without worrying about the golem hurting him/her.

As far as the golems are concerned, I strongly recommend a ranged weapon. You will need a +3 ranged weapon. Possibilities in the early stage of the game:
1. Rifthome Axe - if you side with Bodhi.
2. Azuredge - can be bought in CC. Should be +3 even if the description of the axe does not state it. I've never tried it.
3. Tansheron Bow - can be bought in Trademeet.
4. Sling of Everard - can be bought in CC if you have bonus merchants installed.
Position your people in the room nearby and send the one with the ranged weapon to the golems. Let him attack the golem from a distance and run back to the room. The attacked golem will follow you. Kill the golem. Repeat. Leave the iron golem as your last task.
The iron golem is, in fact, an almost adamantine golem. It has 90% against all weapon types. Attacking such golem with a melee weapon is a scream of desperacy or a rude necessity. This is not needed here. Let the golem hang in the door and kill him with your ranged weapon. It will last a while because you will score 2 - 3 HP per hit but be patient.

The big trolls. Try to separate them and take them one by one. You should be successful at least once.

3 notes:

1- Whacking the Iron Golem with a 2-Handed weapon is a little bit more dangerous than "poking at them from just outside their melee range:" They can still get you with their Poison Cloud. When they cast it, best just to pull back until it dissipates.

2- Azuredge is +3, but it can only be used by Good characters.

3- Dundee, I thought there was a scroll of Imprisonment in the very last map area of the game (the Harpist's House, or something like that). I could be wrong, though, it's been a while.

In my humble opinion and experience, using wands of cloudkill on golems while they are stuck, or while you are hiding kills them pretty easily. I remember in the planar sphere the golems were giving me a hard time, so used a few charges from the wand of cloudkill and "poof" golems were dead in a few moments. Regarding those trolls i would again recommend using wand of cloudkill, it makes them die pretty easily. Hope that helps.

And yes,
Its not that im preaching monks or something, "THEY ARE PRETTY GOOD", immune to poison, can take a good amount of whacking, level up pretty quickly, can kill with the quivvering palm spell, hands as +3 weapons, at 15th level 45% magic resistant. What else could one want in a character.

You are mistaken. It is longer than the radius of the Poison Cloud as well. I have used Aerie to poke Adamantium Golems to death before using a +3 enchanted Quarterstaff. Minsc has poked the Iron Golem in the De'Arnise Keep with Lilarcor before. It is all about the positioning man!

Last I recall, there are only Time Stop and Meteor Swarm scrolls, concerning level 9 spells that is. There is definitely no Imprisonment scrolls, or Jon Irenicus on the Tree of Life will be toast all the time.

Dundee is correct, and it's a time stop scroll you'll find in Suldanessar; quite sure about that as I went through that area only a few days ago.
One note though, if you've got ToB installed and decide to deal with Watchers Keep while you're still in SoA, you will be able to find other level 9 spells, including a Wish scroll.
Doing Watchers Keep during SoA is not advisable, though... my entire party was between level 20 and 30 when I was still in chapter 2; Watchers Keep is the ultimate XP source, I'd say. Rest of SoA was painfully easy as a result.
