I find that hard to believe. What if the person in question farted by accident ? It's a normal human thing, it's ridiculous if you'd get fined over such a thing.

Google doesn't seem to give any information on whether it's really banned in Norway or not; but I don't think it is, though. Maybe he did something really inappropriate at a certain awkward moment (maybe during a one minute silence for the death of Someone Important and he just happened to be near a microphone when he... you know ) and he got fined for disturbance of the peace or blasphemy or something.

What ever you say. Then you don't blame the Europeans. Blame the politicians.

Groj, spot on! Oh dear I spilled some hot coffee in my lap. Perhaps I can sue someone for a 100 millions.

Back on topic. The news story seems to be missing something. It makes no sense. Did the mother perhaps say something? Ramon, can't you check this out for us? I haven't seen Borvik around here so you will have to be our resident German dentist expert.

I recall many angry responces here in the Netherlands, when a girl got three months of 'civil labour' for throwing away a piece of gum in front of two police officers.

Good for her! The next time she might remember what waste baskets are there for. I like the English way better though. A hefty fine for throwing things out of the car window etc.

Ridiculous story after ridiculous story in this thread! Can't believe they're all true! Unless somehow a lot of detail was missed out! I mean I can imagine the girl getting civil labour like this:

She throws away gum. Police ask her to not do that and pick it up. She refuses and walks on. Policeman grabs her arm to pull her back. She smacks police officer. Police tries to arrest her. She runs. etc. such escalating events can begin with a simple trigger and have dire consequences... maybe all of the above are examples of such stories? After all the above would be a piece of thrown-away gum leading to civil labour...
