Hmmm I'm not sure how the American Health care system works....here in the UK you'd get that checked for free under the NHS.

If you are poor you don't pay much tax, or any if you don't have income and therefore for those people the NHS is paid for by others' taxes and therefore it's free. That's how I understand it anyway.
