You don't overclock do you?

A checksum error can either be caused by incorrect cmos settings, a dying battery, or disconnecting power to your pc without shutting down.

Try going into your bios, hit enter on save and exit and see if it does it again. While you're in there, look around and make sure all of the information is correct (specifically your processor settings).

Skydude and Milamber have the right of it Epona Hopefully its just the little battery on your motherboard. Usually a CR-2032 3volt battery. Very common and easy to replace....hopefully it isn't a dying BIOS chip.

Nah, dosent sound like a HD problem. Besides the checksum error occurs before the BIOS accesses the HD for the first time. The CPU changed sounds like BIOS isnt storing data properly, Which means the BIOS battery is dead. The time store is the first to be effected by this - I think this is deliberate so the problem shows up soonest - and as was said, cr2032s are cheap.

Its odd though, a BIOS battery usualy lasts about 5 years - longer than the life of most mobos anyway. Ive only seen one die once, and that board had a short in the battery circuit.

well, isn't your PC brand new Epona? I thought it was... so if it was the BIOS then it means something short circuited or something right?

If the PC was new, it might have had an old battery slapped in at assembly time god only knows how long those things sit on the shelf before they are used (the batteries)

Well I bought the mobo back last April, and it sat around for a while waiting for me to afford the other parts - I built the thing myself (and btw it worked FINE for 6 months, so no I didn't botch it up LOL!)
