Good to know nobody got hurt Reeka, even small ones can be disastrous. We don't have earthquakes over here in this small part of Indiana, heh, we don't even have tornadoes (thank God) but we do have floods. Back in 97', the Ohio flooded big time and flooded out many small stores, houses, and businesses. First time they had to put up flood walls in 30 years.

4.9 on the Richter scale isn't much. however I hope this isn't the beginning of something much bigger.

Most places have earthquakes at some point. There are old--very old--fault lines through North Texas but I doubt there has been any quake stronger than 4.0 in the last several centuries. Strangely enough (or not, if you have any knowledge of geomechanics) the rate of small quakes increased dramatically beginning in the 1910s with the oil boom as oil fields were discoved all through the area.
I was using a figure of speech, dear.

My local weatherman said quakes like that happen down your way about once in 30 years, Reeka!

Well It's a big deal for Alabama! Hell, I don't even know HOW they had one.. The closest fault line I know of was the one that went through Western Kentucky-- in 1987 we had a small one when I lived in Louisville. They said withing 50 years we could have an 8.0 there. That it could sent the Missouri river backwards for a time. Scary stuff.

According to a Web site affiliated with Georgia Tech, there appear to be two minor faults in northwest Georgia, the Cartersville and Rome faults; one that runs more or less along the Chattahoochee River; and two more in Central Georgia.
