No fragmentation has nothing to do with it. That might cause some very slight slow-down when loading large files that are in many fragments, but that has nothing to do with scrollbars slowing down in IE...

LOL no need to be sorry, I wasn't having a go! hehe. I was just trying to be informative... sorry if you already know this....defrag is for defragmenting files. Files get fragmented when windows tries to fill up little bits of free space on your hard disk. For example, if you delete a small file then a small gap is left. If next time you try writing a large file a part of it will be written to the gap and another part to another gap etc. so it becomes fragmented. Defrag moves the blocks of bytes around to put files back together. It speeds up reading of the files. I very much doubt that this has anything to do with scrollbar speed in IE because when the program is loaded, the scrollbar graphics etc. are loaded into memory.

I'd start sniffing around your mouse drivers. Have you tried scrolling with the keyboard? If so, does it work better?

Yeah, no problem Stormy, thanks for the advice!

And the key board is just as slow...could there be any IE settings that affect scrolling? Any type? And I want to try a different browser, but avoid Netscape, because I have bad memories of that one...anyone know of a good downloadable Internet browser?

You forgot to pay your internet bill?
Have to admit that your problem does sound odd.
Short of a IE reinstall or a full format I don't really know what could solve your problem.

It means that it's not your browser.

Broadband or Dial-up?
