exactly, check the ending of the file you get:
If it's .mp3 .gif .jpg .wav .swf (Flash movie, usually pretty harmless but can be annoying) you are pretty much sure it's not a virus. Unless the person tells you exactly what it is and you are definetly sure it is from them, immidetly delete these. .com (old dos, but is used to carry visruses) .vbs (Visual Basic Script, runs only from windows98 & 2000) .exe (we all know what that is) .scr (Windows Screensaver program) Yikes I'm in a hurry and can't think of anymore right now so if anyone can add some more then go ahead... A good virus scanner will stop most nonsense like this, though there is no substitute for pc-streetwise or simple caution.
My virus scanner quarantines any suspicious emails or webpages before I view them. In fact, in all my years on pcs (since '80 or thereabouts) I have yet to contract any kind of virus or trojan. Pretty impressive, now that I think about it.

Well, might I add very large e-mails. These that I got were 319K, but there were no attachments-----just very large e-mails.

anyway i haven't talked to these guys a lot in the longest time so i know they won't really send me anything like that... and they were all in spanish (spanish.. or some other foreign language). |
