w00t originated on Phantasy Star online via the JP players and westerners mixing their terms together, ~W~ for Wai or Watashiwa, and then Hoot hoot hoot, the OOs looked more like 00 because to the JP text all letter Os were HUGE for some reason, and importers thought people were going h00t, and soon people went ~W~ H00T! and soon it became reuced to just W00T! and its popularity was mostly passed around on chatrooms and most importantly: by Megatokyo
