On a dark and stormy night, the fair Cloudbringer brought to us a quest of great value. All of the post men, and ladies tried to fullfill her plight, hopefully she has gone alright.

USB. Front Port Panel.
If you have yet to get it to work, head a bit from a tinkerer.

We must assume that yee MB does have the additional USB points. Yee shalt find two banks of pins along the very bottom row, as the MB is in the upright and mounted position. These banks are marked USB 1 and USB 2, USB 0 should be at top left of the MB.

If yee shalt not find these banks, then yee shalt not have USB on front panel!

Front panel shalt have a wire harness, solid cable mount to the panel itself, with a 9 pack of loose dangling wires. The easiest way to wire this is by wire lead by wire lead. Lay out the harness flat, and trace down each wire, link the wire to the point location of the panel. Then wire to the MB the exact same way. IE 1-1, 2-2, etc. The panel should be marked, 1 and 10 - is open, remove the plug if necessary to get a good count. The MB is accordingly marked 1 and 10, you know now 10 is open. Just plug them in.

Once that tidus task is complete, go into your BIOS, and turn on your additional USB ports. I have yet to see a cross up in the wire cause any damage! I had to tinker with mine, due to all of the same you mentioned. Not enough clear documentation. I run an ASUS MB and a ECS, both have addittional USB for front load, and neither have suffered from a missmatch in wiring. I used a USB card drive for my testing.

I can't take any responsibilty for any malfunction, due to the natures that be.

Your sound hook-up! Well, that should be a single cable lead with different funny looking plugs on the end. They all hook to the actual SB card at there various locations. Then you need to activate the SB software to get it all to work.

Good Luck

Felix

Felix, you're a gem!

Thanks so much for going to the trouble to type all that out! I sent Nacht an email to let him know this is here, so he can check it. He figured out what my motherboard is (an Intel BX something or other.. LOL...ok ok.. so I don't keep track of all my hardware specs... ) and he was looking for a schematic diagram.

Everyone has been really good about answering my offbeat question! I love IW....you just don't see the level of help and interest you have here on other sites!

Felix! YOU ROCK!!

I've been racking my brains to try and figure out how to connect those stupid pins! For the last couple of hours(and for a few this weekend), Cloudster and I have been going quietly mad trying to find diagrams, manuals, or even a freakin crayon drawing that will tell us how to connect the pins on the front panel to the MB. Thank you muchly for the clear, concise(albiet slightly flowery written ) help!

Animal! Thanks for the idea with the rails. Again, I was going crazy trying to get that silly CDROM to fit. I have a CDROM and a burner that are newer than her CDROM, and both of mine have buttons that are flush with the front of the drive. I was going to put my burner in the top bay of my case(which is identical to Cloudy's)and was going to install her CDROM in a lower bay on my case. I already installed my CDROM in her tower, and it does work. She just likes her CDROM better, since it's more familiar to her. Anyway, the cause of the problem is the front bezel of the tower. It has a louvered door that opens and closes, and it has an opening in the top for a CDROM. Unfortunately the button on Cloudy's CDROM sticks out far enough that the button on the door hits the button on the CDROM all the time, thus the 'maniacal genie' impersonation.

Everyone! Thanks for the awesome help! Cloudy knows how much the techie(and the male) in me rebels at asking for help, but, since we did have to ask, I couldn't think of a more wonderful bunch of folks to get help from. You guys RULE!!
