Africa is a whole different problem. Almost all, if not all, of those counrties that were former colonies are currently being run by thugs. These people are living very high on the hog. The people are starving. Untill the thugs are removed nothing will happen for the common people.

I eat GMO too - but not when I have a choice. Just so you know, the cross-contamination issues are very fair. Aventis and Garst Seed Company in N.C. made the GMO StarLink corn. This corn was GM-ed to produce the Cry9C chemical that is toxic to certain insects. But, Cry9C is an allergen to humans. The EPA approved very limited use, and only for animal feed. In 2000, the companies got EPA to increase cultivation allowance from 120,000 hectares to 2.5 million hectares. But, it places strict liits on how close it could be grown to other corn and made it be segregated from other corn and used only as feed corn. Now, anyone who knows how corn is trucked about after it leaves the field, and stored and warehoused, knows the EPA was being not just naive but STUPID. Needless to say, this caused problems and contaminated corn all over the US. Perhaps you remember being in a Taco Hell in 2000/2001 and seeing a sign apologizing for the use of white corn tortilla because yellow corn was unavailable. So, the other US growers sued Aventis and Garst for the contamination and the economic damage to the reputation of the product. And won. For further info, see: StarLing Corn Products Liablity Litigation, Kramer, et al. vl Aventis, et al., 212 F.Supp.2d 828 (N.D.Ill. 2002). Want me to beat up on GMOs and defend Eurotwitism some more?? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The first cracks in the EU walls are already there (Iraq), and now they are adding another bunch of countries to it, mostly former Sovjet states. There's no common goal, no common interrest, i have serious doubts the EU is going to last a long time.

This all reminds me of an interview with a Dallas Cowboys player, Nate Newton, who was notorious for gaining weight in the off-season, then having to go on crash diets to get it off. Some reprters voiced condern for his health, and he replied, "I'd rather be rich and just live to be 65, than poor and live to be 80."

It still boggles my mind that the leader of a country would allow his people to starve rather than accept the US food. Weird that the standards are higher for food than they are for life.
I remember seeing footage of angry villagers demanding the food from the American workers who couldn't pass it out. They said they didn't care about the treated grain; too bad they don't get a vote. ![]() Proof that not everything that causes people to hate America is America's fault! Can't you hear the villagers now? "Those Americans have all that food, but keep it locked away to rot despite our pleas to be fed. They are letting us die while they pretend to care."
